What Compaq laptop did you have trouble with?
I've got a Presario 900 US and it's been flawless since I got it last November.
I hear they're made by Toshiba.
The crappy one is a Presario 700. It keeps overheating which causes stuff to stop working...ie modem, mouse pad, keyboard, HARD DRIVE!!!! I've spent countless hours on the phone trying to understand what the foreigner on the other end is saying...I've sent it in three times and each time it just comes back w/ a different problem. Screw Compaq, go Dell!

HAHAHA. Sorry to laugh at your problems, but that seems to happen on about 50% of Dell laptops that I maintain. It's very common and I'm shocked that Dell hasn't fixed it yet.

What was the fix???? I use an external mouse, so if there is anything I can turn off that cures this, please let me know. Knowing more about mechanical stuff than electronics, I want to take a knife & cut the mouse out of it when it acts up

Dell replaced the keyboard and mouse pad assembly. We buy 3 years on all PC's. Gee, I wonder why.

I had Dells for years without any issue. But those were all desk tops. Maybe they have a poor laptop thing going on. I do know you never buy an IBM think pad. My daughter got one when she went to college, and they still didn't have it working when she left for grad school. About the off shore tech support, that is how things are going now days. Writer your Congressman.
