New-bee - trans. overhaul Q.

Hey all,

Glad I found this community. I just bought my first Turbo Buick - an '86 GN, and I absolutely love it!......except:

Second gear is almost completely 'gone' from my transmission. All other gears seem to operate fine.

If I manually shift, first gear is fine, second gear slips A LOT (the car barely accelerates, the engine revs freely), 3rd and 4th are fine. I am prepared to have a complete overhaul done, unless there are some specific things it could be that could be replaced. Car has 93k on it and a few mods. I am unsure of whether the transmission has been repaired/replaced in the past.

What could it be? Or do I need a complete overhaul?

From what you're telling us, chances are the 2nd gear band is toast so it's overhaul time.
