what would be a significant turbo improvement over my cpt61 p-trim bb unit? with the new billet units...
3200 lock up pat's converter
msd50s
single nozzle alky kit
stock heads, stock bottom end
TA headers, 3 bolt frame.

or would a converter change be a better gain overall?
It spools great...so that's not an issue. Just curious, there's a lot of new stuff out there now.

Yeah, you'll get a bigger gain with a heads/cam package. The reason I say cam too is because you'll be turning some higher rpms with that converter unlocked. With the same turbo I'm running 118mph on street tires at the track at 21lbs of boost. But I've got Champion irons and a 206/206 roller cam. With more boost I could probably get a mid to high 10sec run with a good launch.

Post your current track times. My guess is 114-115mph or so.

converter is locked.
here the closest track is 1kft. the car was running 101-103mph on 25psi on a SLIC...that was before quite a few changes. 27 psi now, FMIC, 28"DR, LCAs etc.

Do you have 1/8th mile ET and mph? I not sure what the 1000ft mph converts to as all my time slips only show 1000ft ET, no 1000ft mph.

A quick guess says thats maybe a 90-91mph 1/8 and a 113-114mph 1/4.

I have the same turbo your running and the best I've done so for is 11.70 @ 114 mph. with a 1.70 60 ft. So just like everyone else has said your kind of at the point that I am when you need at least some ported heads. I'm hopefully going to make it to the track tomorrow and try to get a new best but I will see.

I had serious traction issues...best 60ft was a spinning 1.8. I ran 9.9-10.2 that day at 99-103mph. Lots of 1.9 and 1.8 60s. (1k ft)

I have to beg you to keep your same turbo. Better money spent with heads and cam. You can make more power with what you have at this point without spending any real cash. Do you have any wideband, powerlogger, or scanmaster numbers to post?

yeah...AF numbers are all fine IMO...I use a Innovative WB and then verify the SM2.
I've got to dig around in my shop and see if I can find more than that one slip last night. I'll look later tonight.
Thing is...the FMIC changed a lot. I'm able to run 27psi on 93 octane now with the ALKY gain set on 7. All the other settings are stock. SM2 numbers come back with 0 knock and high 700s. I need to hook the wb up to verify. Last time I checked that should yield a low 11 afr. So I figure the time slip will look different this time out.

6262dbb 10.7@125. I think he's running 60's. Yeah, its a nice combo and impressive. Keep in mind that its a $1500 turbo and $1000 converter. If I had to buy a turbo, I would look at a billet one in that size range. If I already had a good turbo, I would look at heads.

I would love to run some great times on my CPT61 and then throw in something like a billet 6262 and see what happens. With a lot of people having billet turbos, I haven't seen too many people running great times on an old school turbo first and then throwing in a billet turbo for comparison. I think one of the biggest gains had been with the lower stall requirements of the billet wheels combined with the dbb options. Now you've got a lot better spoolup response driving on the street, especially for those people who had a converter that had too low of a stall to begin with. That could equate to better track times too.
