I have a new ACC black molded carpet that I'm ready to install in my car. Yesterday I took the seats out, console out, shifter, etc... and the old carpet's out of the car. I test fitted the new carpet and it obviously needs trimming to get it to fit. I do not have anything that'll cut the carpet yet, so this afternoon I'm going to swing by Lowes or Home Depot to get some carpet sheers.

I'm looking for any tips or tricks to trimming and getting the new carpet in and fitting right.

Thanks,
Eric

Sitting the carpet out in the sun for a few hours will help the install go easier!

Thanks Mark, I sat it in the sun yesterday while taking everything out. That seemed to help me form it back to it's original molded shape. I'm wondering if it'd be a good idea to lay the old carpet on top of it and trim some of the excess. It's seems like the first part (probably the most critical) is to trim the front where it goes under the console.

Once i got the old carpet out. I laid the new on top of old in the sun. once it started to form to the old I trimmed off the excess using the old carpet as a template. Then installed it in the car. I used a hair dryer to get the carpet to mold better to the floor and trimmed the rest using a razor blade.

Finished mine yesterday. I also laid the new carpet on top of the old carpet, let it cook in the sun and helped mold it into shape. Used the old carpet as a template to trim and it fit great.

Thanks for the advice.

Carpet install

Eric, that leather interior is absolutely beautiful! It just about floored me. I only wish I could afford it but I can't. Just know that yours is just terrific! Great job. I'm in the process of putting a new carpet in my '87 Grand National also, but it's been TOO HOT outside and in the garage to do it. (97-101 degrees) Hope it cools down somewhat so I can start cutting the carpet and putting it in. Wow. Just love that leather!!!!!

Thanks Bruce. I can't take full credit for the leather, the guy I bought the car from had it done by a local auto upholstery shop.

I can't say a blame you on the weather, it was pretty hot here when I did mine. I didn't let that detour me and I sweated my butt off working on it.

Good luck on your install!

Thanks, Eric. Appreciate that. Well, it hit 100 degrees today, and yesterday it was no better, though I had to take a trip to visit a close friend who is dying, as we speak, in the same hospital my Dad passed away. Same floor, next hall down. Fellow musician, long time buddy. Very sad, very long drive. Down day, wanted to work on the carpet, but too damn hot, too depressed at the moment. Took my door edge guards (B91 option) into the house basement to sand out the dents, prep for painting. No better tomorrow, the heat really gets to me, as I've had two heat strokes in my life, don't need anymore. Man, that leather looks beautiful! Oh, one good thing, Jeremy notified me that he sent me my TurboBuick CD manual out to me today, so I'm really looking forwards to reading that. Should come in handy when I use it on the computer sitting next to my GN in the garage. That is, if it hasn't melted yet.
