new cooling mod for better waterflow

I just invented a mod to move more coolant around in the 86-7 engine. At the back of the heads there is no coolant crossover, to move coolant between heads, and a small amount of air sits at the top of the heads. there are thick bosses on both sides of the intake above the coolant holes in the heads. i drilled them with a 3/16 bit through the bosses and drilled the tops of them larger to accept a 1/4 npt hose fitting. maybe the dipstick tube for the trans will need to be relocated slightly. i will connect 5/16 trans cooler line from these ports to the 2 ports in the heater lines that are unhooked from bypassing the throttle body coolant lines. this will help the coolant that normally sits at the back 2 cylinders and the air and push it out to the rest of the system. it doesn't seem like much but anything to even out the coolant temp across the 6 cylinders can help...

hope someone out there thinks its a good idea.

Actually what you and I created was a four corner cooling system. I did my research before I did it and many v8's have the same thing including the LT1 from the factory. Basically it does exactly what you said with out it. Air pocket sits there and doesn't move neither does whatever crud you have in your engine. I don't know if it was that or the RMI 25 but my engine has always run cooler since I did those and several other things along the same lines.

I drilled and tapped the intake, ran two pieces of hose to a tee and from that tee it goes to the looped line for the TB coolant ports. Before I hooked it up to the ports, I started the car to see how much coolant actually flowed from that area and it was not a whole lot but enough to make a difference.

I thought I was Crazi... but I see there are other people out there that think like me...

Upset the flow through the heads? Hmmm water goes into the block and comes out through the heads right? If you look at the intake and the heads as far as cooling, the water in the back of the block has no where to go. If you get an air pocket there, same thing. Now considering that the rear two cylinder are the leanest and therefore run the hottest, wouldn't it make sense to try to keep them cool?

I have seen several SBC with four corner water intakes on the net and read several articles on how and why this helps. Like I said before, it keeps the rear cylinders the same tempurature as the front. We are only as strong as our weakest link.

There shouldnt be any air in there. The heater lines are higher than that area. Add to that, the slight rear tilt of the engine, and the fact the radiator cap is higher than that point, a properly bled cooling system shouldnt have any air in it.

But, if it works for you....go for it....

You are right Jim. There shouldn't be any air in there. But when I got this idea was when I spent about 20 mins scraping crud off the intake where it meets the heads in the back. Then I thought the same thing Brian thought, why not drill holes and port it back in to the heater lines.

I don't have any pics cause you can barely see it under the intake. Just imagine two lines coming from the back of the intake connected at a tee and one line from there under the intake and all the way to the heater pipes. It is painted the same color as my intake sooo unless you are looking for it, you don't see it.
