hi everyone im new to the site. im a huge third gen camaro guy who ended up with a new project. a 78 turbo regal. the engine was rebuilt all stock except for a comp 268H cam with 218 218 dur. at .50 and .469 lift intake and exhaust. it has flowmaster mufflers and a catco or something cat with stock pipes. a b&m 2100 stall converter. i was woundering about how much power this will make and with the addition of a nice downpipe, big mouth air intake, upgraded ignition and the boost turned up. how much that should make. i have to run down my friends 97 z28 that runs 13.8, haha. thanks for any imput.

Hmm you could get an electric exhaust cutout and get max power, if everything is good, tires, brakes tranny then you should give him a good run depending on weather, tune, reaction. sounds to me like you got a nice car, in my Tr book if i can remember, i got you down around 170hp factory, with your mods i will say 200 give or take. what fuel upgrades have you done? Factory 84-85 TB have 200hp 300tq. Post a vid or some pics:cool:

i just got the car and the previous owner did the work to it so far done. i believe he drilled a hole in the carb for something, i have never worked on carbs only fuel injection, he also has written down the free carb mod. it has a new factory fuel pump in it so no upgrades as far as i know. you think im only making 30 more hp from the cam and mufflers?

Going by Chilton buick century/regal 75-87 repair manual, IDK the turbovin one sure its the most HP, anway

VIN bore xstroke compresson oil psi at 2400
C 2bbl 110hp@4000 175Tq@2000 3.800 x 3.400 8.0.1 37
H 2bbl 145hp@3200 270tq@2000 3.800 x 3.850 8.1.1 37
J 4bbl 165hp@3800 260Tq@2200 3.8.00 x 3.850 8.0.1 37

yeah i would say about 20-30hp so 165+30= 195
how much power does that cam say it adds??
Not bad at all for a carb n no intercooler. Maybe 40-45hp with the cam n mufflers but i have to see what comp says it adds. yeah most people want big HP gains but its really 10hp free up here, 15hp gain here 5 hp there it all adds up. But exhaust and intake is the way to go, don't forget about fuel no fuel no power
IF i had that car i would
1) Get cold air intake. since its a 4bbl you could the fresh/ram air kit they sell
2) Exhaust cutout manual or electric
3) drop the flowmaster get turbo mufflers ex aero chamber, dynomax turbos, or no mufflers.
i use a dynomax(walker) 4) hi flow cat from summit.
you could 4 1/2 hollow out your cat for more power without using the exhaust cutout.
5 )Run 93 and up with lucas fuel treatment and if you really want to feel power add lucas octane booster  but only use those additives when you race or if you can afford it all the time.
6) before all the rest, if you have a manual fuel pump go electric or get more fuel going.
7) oh and if your have a clutch fan go electric easy mod saves gas, frees up more power at all RPMS no drag from clutch fan.

ya thats what i was thinking i would do to the car. the cam does not say anything about gains. it does say slightly lopey:biggrin: , well i figured i the mufflers would add at least ten and i the cam would add around 30. im familair with how weak cams from the late 70s and 80s are so i figured it would be a nice bump. unless i turn the boost up i dont need an additive at all but at the track when the boost is turned up ill be sure to be running some high octane

sounds good, hmm kept us posted with PICS!!!! tho my 2cent, if ya want get 5gal of 93 then dump a 10$ bottle of lucas octane booster n you will love how it runs:biggrin: again kept us posted
few must
i would tune it up
Intake&exhaust
Go electric fan

good luck HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Get yourself at least a boost guage and knock guage FIRST! You can even get an entire A pillar to mount them in so it doesn't look like Sh!t.

You need to post in the b4 black forum!!;) Check out the b4black website for tuneup procedures and suggestions. Run highest octane you can get at all times-usually 91-93. Get rid of the stupid air box and rig up your own CAI usuing some flexible ducting and a K&n cone or just slap a cone right on the end of the tube. Gut the cat AFTER you go get them stupid flowbastards off that poor car and get something good like magnaflow or at least some hooker aerochambers. Is it single or dual exhaust job?? Nothing wrong with single-it's lighter and cheaper. Check for any exhaust leaks or cracked manifolds. Then do the carb mod. You don't need to worry about the fuel pump until 13s maybe low 14s. Make sure you tune for highest boost with ZERO knock.

I used to be a big F body fan, 3rd gen too in fact. But you know what they say, once you go black you never go back, LOL!

ya it has a boost gauge and tach. the exhaust is a dual system. are our cars that loud with open exhaust?. the turbo should muffle it somewhat. sorry ill post in before black

I think he means to get aftermarket boost and knock guages--don't use the ones in the dash as they can be inaccurate. I run a boost guage and knock guage on the a-pillar--I don't bother looking at the dash guages.
