hello all! have been lurking here for a little while. I am at the point in my life where I can afford a GN. I have known about them my whole life and been in a few- one that was heavily modded and incredibly fast.

I am looking for an original car to make my own. I have found a couple close to home that I am going to entertain purchasing.

My question to all of you is can I get a modest amount of power increase for $5k. I want to make sure I keep everything reliable as I am going to drive this car any chance I get. one thing for sure I want to upgrade would be the exhaust. So that would leave me with about $3500-4000 left to use for any mods.

any help or insight is appreciated.

Thanks!!
Nathan

Hi Nathan, welcome to the site. Be prepared to read, and then read some more. The search engine is your friend, so make sure to use it. Also, check in on the new members section.;)

You can spend 5G on these cars in no time, so it really all depends on what your goals are, I'm picking up a bone stock low mileage T and I've spent over 2 grand just on items to make the car more reliable and to run on today's wonderful fuel. My list is a scanmaster, powerlogger, Turbotweak chip, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, new fuel pump and hotwire kit, fuel pressure and boost gauges, vacuum brakes, upgraded maf and translator, tr6 ignition, and several security devices. This would be in addition to the spring cleaning. This is just to make the car reliable, in my opinion. Some of this may be considered go fast items, but I already have one that's fairly fast. The new one will be my reliable, drive anywhere, cruiser.

There's a lot of good knowledgeable folks here that will be glad to help you out. These cars can be real heart and bank breakers without the know how to play with them, but when they're right:D:D:D. Best of luck and welcome to the family:cool:

Thanks,

I am not necessarily looking for go fast I guess. mainly to make it ultra reliable. if it adds to the performance than it is a plus. I plan for sure exhaust and a tune at the minimum to start out.

There is an article in this month's Hot Rod magazine that might give you pointers. They spent $6800 though.
