hello,
one of the biggest recomendations i see on here is to install a knock gauge so i did.
i believe i am ok with the installation but i do have a question.
drove the car today as it decided to start today. i have had a weird no start condition, anyhow the light comes on just as it's supposed to.
warmed car up and turned it loose couple of times and have no knock at all. i was expecting some but hoping for none. i have fuel pres at 46 without line on and the boost is 13-14 lbs on the autometer gauge i have . i noticed that when i crank the car to start when it's hot it register knock on the gauge.
does this sound ok to you guys? i am trying not to hurt my 130,000mile motor til i get a chance to rebuild it this winter, but that boost feels real good.
thanks,d.g.

yes some cars will show knock when you first start the car. on these cars the knock sensor will detect knock while its cranking but this is normal. there is nothing to worry about. on another note the fuel pressure seems high to me for that low of boost. what are your o2's and how are you tunning? static fuel pressure really shouldnt be over 43 line off.

thanks,
i am sure i was a little overkill on the fpres, but i was trying to stay safe on the rich side. i don't have any tuning tools yet as i was getting ready to changeover to 87ecm. iwas afraid to put any more boost until i have some more tuning tools. could you possibly keep raising the boost until you see some knock? or should i just wait til i have more info?
i really appreciate the answers over here on turbobuick.com as i have posted some questions on turbo regal website and they do not seem interested in hot air cars.
thanks again,d.g.
on another note this car sat for a long time so i may have some injector issues as it has a rough idle but has never missed under power.

your boost isnt high as long as your running 91-94 octane. i wouldnt up the boost but i would back the fuel pressure down some. just make sure you monitor for knock. you will pick up more power by backing the fuel pressure down a few pounds. once you do this convert over to a 87 ecm get yourself a good chip and get the powerlogger. once you have the power logger and you let us see the # it will help us on getting your car running good.
