Hello turbobuick.com members...I'm new to this forum because I plan on in the not so distant future of buying a grand national but really don't know what to look for...I've looked at 2 and drove 1 grand national...The one I drove had horrible brakes and lots of rust a 100,000 mile car and now I know the guy wanted too much in asking $12,000 for it...I found another for $13,500 and it said to have in the 60,000 original mile range...The car had what appeared to me to be some sort of rhino liner looking roughness to the bottom 3rd of the car that the salesman said was rock chip protectant that came factory on every GN...I'm guessing this isn't true? I'm clueless when it comes to buying a collector type car as I've never bought one. I've always liked the grand national since I got interested in cars but bought new a 2008 dodge charger srt8 superbee because I don't know much about older cars and the new ones are more easily financed :D any help would be appreciated also live in kansas city,MO thanks,Mark

Probably stock, lower miles but not so low I would be afraid to put a few on it myself...Not really a racer although I like to go fast but when you get into drag racing IMO fast is never fast enough and it's really expensive trying to go fast enough...

First, welcome to the board.

Next, you are in luck Mark. I just left a pipeline job in that area and know of some people who would very likely be willing to help you on your quest. Also, you are on a gold mine of a message board for VERY valuable info. I suggest the same to you as what I did and what most everyone here will tell you to do.... Read, read, read. Use the search function for any topic you can think of. Randomly read threads in the tech sections. If it exists for these cars, odds are there have been threads discussing it. This is a fantastic community of people, possibly the best I have seen in the car hobby. Most everyone here is extremely helpful and polite to boot.

Some fellow GN/Turbo Regal owners in your area I know are as follows:

Bob Speiser (Bobs rare 6) - http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/members/bobs-rare-6.html

Mark Parks (Mark Parks) - http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/members/mark-parks.html

Ty - (JOHNDEEREGN) - http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/members/johndeeregn.html

Bryan - (Quick6'n'-K.C.) - http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/members/quick6-n-k-c-.html

I've hung out with Bob & Mark many times. Both are GREAT guys (with really nice TRs). Ty I have talked to in PM here on the board. Bryan I have never met in-person, however Bob says he is a cool cat, too. So he must be. There are some other people in the KC area on the board, but I suck with names and these are all I could come up with at the moment. I met another guy named Matt who has a TTA & a GNX clone (along with some cool old-school Firebirds), but I can't locate his screen name.

Anyhoo, I'm not too sure about the fist two cars you have looked at. My gut reaction says they are priced too high, especially the 100k-mile car.

As far as the textured area on the lower part of the car, it is on every GN I have seen, although it might have been an option. However, I am not 100% sure of that.

Now, to steer to you to a potential car... Call Greg Daughters at VIP Custom Cars in Polo, MO. His number is 660-354-2602. I last spoke to him about 3 weeks ago and he had a 1-owner, totally stock (as far as he knew) GN he had acquired from an older gentleman in the KC area. When last we talked, he was looking to get around $14k out of the car I think. I never got a chance to look at the car, but I remember seeing it on eBay and it looked REALLY nice.

Also, look over the classifieds here. There have been a LOT of nice cars hitting this board lately and they have been priced very right.

So how do you like that Charger? The Superbees are some bad ass rides. What color did you get?

Good luck with your future GN. Hopefully the info above will help with what you're looking for.

 Damn! THAT is a sweet car!

Yeah I seen that one...I looked at the for sale section before registering to this site...

Well these cars are money pits. ;) The little work you do the faster they go it's like a damn drug. You can buy a stock one for 5-8k and put another 10k in it trans, turbo, intercooler, fuel pump, chip, inj, etc. and the list keeps going haha or you can buy a good modded clean 60k-90k mi gn for 18k ish.
The key with these cars is finding one that is not rust bucket and was built by someone who knows what they're doing. Combination is key with these cars, you can't toss $$$$ at them and go fast. :)

That's no joke, boost. Money pits they are and an addiction they quickly become. But I have never had more fun with another car than what I have had with this one. :D

Oh, and Mark, if stock is what you end up buying, immediately take it to Bob and drop the car off along with a blank check. LOL! He can make it fast, I assure you. His is (I believe) a mid-10-second car on pump gas, alky & drag radials. Thing is wicked!

Thanks for the info...The 2nd car I was speaking of was the one in polo that your talking about...It had the textured bottom...I don't know VIP custom cars but drove my superbee up there about a month or so ago to look at that car...It looked good to my untrained eye...A few spots of concern to me on the body...A spot on the hood looked touched up or sprayed over and it had quite a few chips on the front of the car...Not sure if the paint was original or a repaint but looked pretty good to me...As for my car I got a 2008 superbee and that year all 1000 superbee's were painted B5 blue the 2007 bees were yellow and the 2009 bee's are orange...I'm considering the mecum auto auction in april but don't know if they will have a GN there or not...I've been to the last 3 kansas city mecum auctions and all 3 had a GN but none met the reserve price...

From what I remember Greg telling me about the car, it had not had a repaint. 60k miles will get some rock chips, too. Hell, I have a few on 1-year-old paint. :frown:

If you end up with a car you want painted, I would recommend VIP. They build some wicked cars up there. Here's a thread with some pics I took a couple of months ago.

I'd likely sell an appendage for one of his Eleanor clones.

I couldn't remember which year was what color on the Bees. That B5 Blue is my favorite on them. Such a cool color scheme with the satin black accents.

Carry you a big amount of cash to Mecum. I hear there are 3 GNXs on the block. :D

Nice I've seen some of their cars listed on ebay but when I went up to look at the GN it was at the little used car lot dealership they got up there with all the used minivans and such LOL I never got to see the shop part...I used to live about 10 minutes from there between polo and lathrop...I only moved because I couldn't stand living on a gravel road...There are 3 GNX's at the mecum FL auction...I was talking about the mecum kansas city auction in april...

LOL! Yea, the little car lot is very blah when you first look at it. He had a Shelby GT350H, a 63-ish Vette, a 57-ish Chevy and some other stuff in the garage part the day I was there. But the shops... Yea, the goldmine is in the shops.

I lived in Cameron for a few months. Not a bad little town. But damn, there are a lot of gravel roads up there. LOL

Ah, yes... You're right on the Mecum auctions. Don't know why I was thinking they were at the one you were going to.
