Let's say I'm to cheap to spend $3,500 on a new grooms short block..

I'm thinking of getting a rebuild from ATK or other engine remanufactures ($1,500), then just adding a girdle, good heads, cam, timing chain.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Russ, yes I read that some machining is required.

Do you think it would be less to get the billet mains rather than the girdle?

thanks

For mid 10s the 2 center caps are all that's needed, PROVIDED you take it easy till you KNOW the tune up is right. low 11s and slower you can get away with stock. 1500$ is too cheap, I'd be very afraid! You've read the sue or not to sue thread right? Be careful! :(

just trying to look at different options. I know the atk's have a warranty but it would be voided as soon as I touch the motor....
