Do to my current financial/divorce situation I had to put the installation of the Currie 9" I have on hold for now...blew about 6 teeth off ring gear last Fall with 16 psi transbrake launches and a half dozen 1.48 60ft times ;) After adding up the cost of new axles, gears, drive shaft and assorted parts totaling over $1,000 I just couldn't justify spending that much on my car right now. After doing some searching 9bolt.com seemed to be the only option for gears...used gears at that ranging from $220-$270 plus shipping from Australian almost puts me 1/2 way to my original cost of finishing the 9" install. Until I found JTs Parts & Accessories, Justdifferentials.com and Nitro Gear & Axle Home - Nitro Gear & Axle they just recently added a 3.70 gear set for the Australian Borg-Warner 9-bolt 7.75" rear for $175. I talked to the guys on the phone and they were awesome. Since I am now running 28" tall tires the 3.70 gears should workout perfect. So far after a couple test drives going from the stock 3.27 to the 3.70 gears the car feels nice and turbo seems to spool quicker...plus it seemed to correct my speedometer according to my GPS! So the big thing for me was to finally get the car back on the road after nearly 9 months...the 9" will go in when things settle out but for now I'm crusin' again!

hooray

Good news! Glad your back on the road for reasonable amount of dough.

thanks me too...drove her into work today...beautiful morning here in MD, t-tops out was sweet! Checked the speedometer & Scanmaster again on Rt70 at various speeds from 50-70 mph against my GPS app on my Droid and it was dead on!!! So 28" rear tires and 3.70 gears puts it right back where it belongs

Hi Scott,

Great weather here too! This year in upstate NY, June and July, have been the driest it's been in 20 years.
Great to here the car is running well.

Most people change the little plastic gear in the transmission to correct speedo, or do a little programming...............But I like the way you think.

I just got my 4.10 gears for the LT4 from JT's the other day. I won't be putting a big enough tire on to fix my speedo though.

Enjoy the Ride.

Are you still running the 3:70 gears? If so, how are they working out for you? I'm thinking of giving them a try, if I don't go with a fully built Strange or Currie rear.

Yes but my car is down now preparing to install my new motor. With my old setup it really helped with my spool up due to big turbo, stock heads and cam. I would not go 3.70's without running 28-30" CIA tires though. I run 295/55-15 MT DR's (28"). Before I replaced the gears from the stock 3.27's my speedometer was off by 10 mph due to the taller tires. After installing the 3.70's it was pretty close to being correct. I have only ran it once since and did not launch it hard off the trans brake at that time for fear of breaking the rear again right before a planned Cruisin OC week vacation so I babied it. On the street they feel great and it helps my spool quite a bit. I'll see what happens when the new built forged motor goes in...should be ~600+ HP. I have a Currie 9" that will go in shortly that may get the same if they work if not I'll drop back to 3.50's.

Currently I'm running the M/T ET Street II 295-50r16, they are pretty close to 28". I'm thinking, like you've already said, that it will defiantly help out with spool up.

I think running the 3:70 gears in the 1/8 mile could be very beneficial, what are your thought running them in the 1/4? And driving long distance...?

Currently, I have a stock un-opened engine, Walbro 340, 60lb, trans plus, ATR 2.5 DP, 62mm TB, ported stock exhaust elbow, LCA's, Pan Hard Bar, PTS 3200 9/11 stall L/U, ...nothing special, but the car runs hard for what it is. Friday, I will be taking the TA60-1 off, and will be installing a Bison built 6262. I'm sure spool up will be faster, and more power is to be had. What do you think this combo is capable of? I plan on running 25-28psi with V/P 114.

Yes... nice gears I also purchased their install kit as well. Give them a call very good to deal with. I think they now have some other gears for our rear but at the time I got mine all they had were the 3.70s.

You should be able go pull low 11's @ 120+ . Send Byson a pm with the link to this thread. He helped me a lot dialing mine in with boost, converter lockup point and RPM to max out my car. I was just about there until the rear broke.

do you think the nitro gears are stronger than the stock 9 bolt gears? what breaks on these axles the ring and pinion or the axles? thanks

Cool, thank man. I just installed the Bison 6262 turbo, breaking it in now, so no real boost right now. But, I can defiantly tell there is way better throttle response while merging on to the freeway. Next weekend, I'll slowly up the boost. Woot!

I think so...they build a lot of rock crawler gears too. Mine broke about & teeth off the ring gear after quite a few 12-16 psi hits from my trans brake.

Yeah Champion ported big valve TTA heads, Champion ported intake GN1 70mm plenum and TB, big roller, ~9.5:1, etc...also going with a billet 71HPQ (7168), FAST XFI, etc.
Good luck tonight...can't wait for you to get it all ironed out too!

Only ran 2 passes.
Decided not to go all out. Was focused on 60ft's.
1.44 60ft
10.55 at 123.7 mph
21-22 psi Boost.

Scott,
I just bought some 3.45 gears off EBAY last night. They came off an 89 Trans Am GTA 7.75 Borg Warner 9 bolt.

While shopping, I went ahead and purchased the 9 bolt TA rear girdle, and bought a master install kit from justdifferentials.com

Do you think this is all I will need to do the install? Actually, I will be having them installed professionally.

BTW I checked, but justdifferentials.com still only offers the 3.70 gears....
