i finally got my orange stripe in a few days ago. its definatly stalling higher (digital dash, no tach :( )but it doesnt' seem to help launch harder. if i watch the boost gauge, the boost does rise much faster but it doesnt' translate into power on the ground. Another thing that i've really noticed is now i can't do a burn out. before with the d5 it would burn the wheels at 1# if i played with the brakes a little, now i can easly get 5# but the wheels refuse to let go, i wish i could say its from having so much traction, but i can't.

Once the car gets rolling it works great, from a 5# launch ( easy to do, before it would take all day to build up the kind of boost) it takes off pretty lightly with boost at about 13#. after a few feet (already at boost) something happens and it pulls like a bat out of hell.

my thoughts are that maybe the orange stripe has more slip in it than the d5 did. i'm almost positive its not the tranny slipping.

also who makes the orange stripe?

You've got the opposite problem I do (see my recent post on rebuild and re-stall), where I build no boost at the line and spin easily. Must be related to stall.

comeon, lots of people switch to orange stripes, has anyone else had this problem? i'm almost ready to say screw it and put the stock converter back in. if it doesnt' drop time at the track i will.

is it the cnverter, or do i just have a lack of power, or whats the deal here.

I had those same problems with my ornage stripe. It felt like I still had the stock convertor in. This was with several mods including my old TE-60. I've since had a tranny rebuild and went back with a close to stock convertor. I'll upgrade later due to a bigger turbo being put on recently but it won't be an orange or red stripe going in.

Denn,

Sorry to hear you're not happy with it. :( When I had it, it felt like the motor would wind out without any load, then start pulling (kinda like the rubber-band effect). I just thought I had too much turbo and cam for it, and it did pick up a bunch after stepping up to the Precision. I don't know what your combo is, but if it's like mine, I could see where you'd be having the same problem. When you bought it, I was thinking yours was pretty much stock - in which case it should be helping vs the stock D5. I doubt there's anything wrong with the converter, as it had less than 1000 miles on it, the fluid looked and smelled clean when it was pulled for the swap.

BTW, that converter was built by Transmission Crafters (TransCraft) and sold by Mike Licht through Modern Muscle Car (now Ramchargers).

i don't think its anythign wrong with just mine, liek you said it had very few miles on it, and looked great when i put it on. The car does seem to run a little better, but i wouldn't expect any more than a tenth of a drop in the 1/4. but who knows, i'm going to the track tomorrow.

i knew it wasn't a good high dollar 9" like i really wanted, but i couldn't afford that anyways. for what i paid i'm happy enough. i think it will help me out when i go to a te-60 turbo like i'm planning on doing, maybe with more power the converter will work better, untill i can get a better one.

i got what i paid for i guess, but i'm glad to know its not just me.

Let us know how you did at Bandimere. Are you going to try running with the converter locked or unlocked or both and see what the difference is? I launch at about 14# with my orange stripe and Hoosier QTPs.

its pouring today:mad: so no trip to the track.

Last year i dtoped 3 tenths by locking the tc. I just locked it off the line, so when it shifter into 2nd it locked. are you using a trans brake or just foot brake to get the 14#?

I'm using the foot brake and holding it until I look like this
I'm going to try to go to Bandy next Wed. the 19th. Let me know if you're going maybe we can hook up there.

weather permitting, i'll be there.

you can save yourself a few bucks by going to sun honda, performance wheel and tire, and a few other places and getting free passes. call bandimere and they might tell you where you can get the passes.

I have a dark green/blue t-type. i'll probably be the only one with a car like that, if not, i'm the one who has the big dents in the hood:mad:
