Is it ok to use the 70% isopropal for .83 a quart at WAL-MART?
Will be doing initial first time tunining with new SMC kit. Single nozzel. I do not have a specific chip for alky does it matter?
Can't get the sticky velcro pad to stick to the side of the dash panel.
Thanks
Tim

Yeah you can use that 70% iso, but ultimately will want to go with denatured probably. You can use your street chip, but if you get one burned for your setup with alky you will do better ie more timing. The velcro sux.

Walmart 70% alcohol? Yes.

Get 90% if you can afford it. While you are at it, use some of that alcohol to clean the dash so the sticky pad will stick.:D

Yes the chip does matter.

I'll let the alcohol gurus, digress on this subject.;)

Sorry, I thought I was putting this in the Alcohol and Nitrous Tech Forum. Still open for more suggestions.
Thanks
Tim

Tim,

What bsdlinux said is correct, to use some of the alcohol to clean the side surface that you are trying to get the velcro to adhere to. This cleans off all the protecterant off the side dash surface. I've had to redo my velcro a couple of times already as the GA heat can help break down the adhesives. You can do a search on mounting the SMC on this site and see where someone recommended some plumbers tape? I'd stay with tape or velcro mounts as I don't want anything drilled or attached. I'm not familiar with that but might be worth checking into (plumber's tape). I run the 100% denatured alcohol in my system and found that very easy to tune with. Didn't take long to get it right either. I took a tip from the board here and went by my local Ace Hardware to order up a 5 gallon container which costs about $30.00 ($5 per gallon) I believe it was by a conpany called Crown. I have a specific chip for the alky burned by Scott Jones out of Atlanta. I haven't used it, since I've been very satisfied with the results with alky with my Thrasher street chip. Let me know if you want Scott's address- he's very reasonable and the chip does have a higher timing profile. He worked closely with another SMC user in the ATL area in the development of that chip. I'll get around to giving it a try soon. Hope this info helps. Shoot me an offline email or PM if you need any other help. See Ya!

When I first got my SMC kit, I tried 70 and 91%. It was very hard to tune, at least for me. I then switched to 100% denatured and it was real easy to tune. Again, at least for me.

As for chip, I'm running a Thrasher 92(50# injectors) and it seems to work very well. My car never liked timing and this chip fits perfectly.

Moderators:

Could you please move this thread over to the alcohol tech section? Tim will get more help from the members that hang out in that section. Thanks!:) :)

100% alcohol is easier to tune but a mix will allow for more boost and knock suppression. Start out at 100% (dont forget to add a pump lubricant) and once you get the namg of tuning start adding distilled water to the mix
