i havent posted in a while, to bussy with work but i figure i needed to post again.

recently my transmission has been giving me major problems like slipping at WOT (kevlar bands) and not wanting to shift until around 4500 rpm so i decided to buy a new tranny.

i decided to buy a prebuilt one from somebody that knows trs than have a monte carlo special built by a local shop. i will let the local shop install it though.

does the stage 2 2004r from postons sound like a good tranny for my gn. also, how hard shifting is that transmission? does it have a shift kit? and what larger stall converter should i buy for street use daily?

so far ive got a Precision PTE44C Turbo, .80 A/R Exhaust Housing, 3.5 Inch Terry Houston Polished Stainless Steel Down Pipe, Precision Front Mount Intercooler, Lucas 42.5 lb Injectors, Poston Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, Kirban Adjustable Wastegate, Kirban Breather By Pass Kit, RJC Power Plate, Walbro Dual Fuel Pumps, Hot Wire Kit, Shift Kit, Scanmaster V2.1, Boost and Fuel Pressure Gauges, 8.5 Inch Eaton 3.43 Posi (LSD), Jim Testa Custom Burnt Chips, Caspers Field Fix Harness, K@N Filter, Chromed MAF Pipe, Hooker Cat Back Dual Exhaust, Stright Pipes, Test Pipe, Dump, and Bilstein HD Shocks.

thanks for the help

im in roanoke va, although i dont want to ship the car out of town.

a friend of mine had his white t types tranny built at a shop called bass transmissions, i havent seen him in a while to talk to him but im still uneasy about a local shop doing a rebuild, although, i dont mind them installing a tranny that i know has the proper internals.

is the stage 2 tranny a good idea for street use?

Talk to Reds Hot Air,im sure he knows a good 200r4 builder in VA.

I wouldnt buy any performance parts from Poston's,much less a "performance" tranny.IMO thats asking for trouble.

Id go with a CK stage 2 tranny for about the same cost.:)

Stay away from bass in vinton if youre doing a 200R4. After talking to them a few years ago about some 700R4 stuff it only took ~10 minutes to figure out they are NOT a trans shop Id want to take anything to other than a th350/400.

not knocking postons for thier NOS products, but performance parts...i would look elsewhere, ive been to thier shop, its just a warehouse, they arent mechanics....more than likely they are just farming out the work anyway and you wouldnt know who built the trans

Poston's stage 2 is from CK. They do or did supply them with trans stuff.

ill ask and find out who makes there stage 2, sounds like a good deal to me if thats the case.

what stall converter should i run?

For a 44? 3000 tops.

Gives you some leeway for an upgrade should you need or want it. :)

how would my car do on the high way with a 3000 stall? i do alittle high way driving each morning to work and i dont want her screaming the whole way.

also, what should i get, locking or non locking and what inch? im not to sure of the diffrence, besides locking locks up on the high way. could some body explain this to me. if i go non locking will that affect my high way miles? also will i have to change any thing else on the car to get eather one of those torque converters working good.

last thing, where is a good place to order one?

If Postons is one of CK's versions I would email Chris directly and ask him for a combo price of converter and tranny to meet your goals.

I think he has 911 type lockups for sale that work well.

I use a Vigilante and a Protorque lockup 9" and 10" on my cars 3000 and 3200 stall, I prefer the 3000 myself.

I like the lockups for the street and gas mileage and even lock it up when racing occasionally. :)

If you race a lot and intend to always lock it up you may need a multi-disk lockup which is another story.

Search the tranny section for more info.

Just my .02 and I'm very happy with my 2 Dynotech trannys.
