While my engine isw being rebuilt I have the option of rebuilding my stock turbo for 310 or replace it with a TA-49. I already plan on upgrading injectors. 36lb with stock turbo or 42.5 with the TA49. Not too much difference in price for the different combos including a chip. I already plan on upgrading the downpipe to ATR and a dual SS ATR exhaust. My Q is how streetable is the bigger combo and is it too much for the converter and trans without having to rebuild thos also. I want a reliable daily driver that will only rarely if ever see a drag stip.

The reason you haven't received any replies is that this question has been answered 1,234,567,890 times. However, since I'm bored let me repeat that a TE-44 with a Garrett .63 turbine cover makes for an excellent street/strip turbo that works very well with the stock torque converter.

The 44 is the same turbo an a 49, only without the stupid bell and with an optimized compressor cover capable of higher flow and HP.

The 44 with PTE's .63 turbine cover makes more power through the traps, but is certainly less satisfying on the street using the stock torque converter - a bit sluggish IME.

Good luck and have you tried the new Cops and Donuts slots? I just love 'em.

:D

IMHO the TE-44 (and I imageine the TA-49) is the best STREET turbo around and also good for mid to high 11's at the track when pushed.

The new GT series turbos are better, but they aren't as easy to find, and they aren't quite as cheap. Can't really say if they are worth the extra money.
