Hello all, this is my first post in here. I've wanted a GN ever since I've liked cars, but never really looked into them until now (since I now have the money for one).

Can anyone tell me the good and the bad about getting one? As in, certain things to watch for while shopping for one.

As with everyone, I would like to get an '86-'87, but what kind of problems are there with intercooling, say an '85?

Also couple months ago, I stumbled upon this website that said that GM was going to discontinue a lot of the "regular maintenance" parts for the GN. I'm assuming they were talking about gaskets and things like that, is that a big issue, or are there enough aftermarket companies making these?

Thank you very much.

I went and looked at an '85 today after work at some used car lot. They closed 15 min. before I got there, but I did see a few things that might shy me away from it. It had a spearco intercooler that looked like it might flow well, but it was still pretty small. The pumpkin ball cover on the rear end had GNX stamped into it, so I'm pretty sure that isn't stock. There were also lots of guages that I'm pretty sure were'nt stock.

I think I'll keep looking.

It doesn't sound that bad. Is it rusty? If not it might be worth considering. Doesn't have to be stock. Besides you'll be hard pressed to find a stock or original car anyway.

An 85 with a Sparco I/C might have an 86/87 drivetrain. Check it out. Might be worth your while.

BTW, welcome to the Darkside...

When you do get ready to purchase see if you can find someone in your area who already has one and take him along with you. He may be able to point out problem issues.

A little rust from what I got to see. I'm going to call tomorrow to see how much they want for it. If it isn't outrageous, I'll get a closer look at it. If I decide I really want to get it, I'll see if they won't let me take it to my body shop to see what they think, as I'll repaint it if I get it.

That spearco I/C just looks so small. The I/C I've got on my SCed Tiburon is bigger than that.
