Hey all, I'm new to the forums. Been cruising the site for a couple days and joined yesterday...

I'm a Junior at Wenatchee Highschool and live in Wenatchee WA. I should be getting my "harvest" check this October and I want a GN (got to manage the school orchard and get 75% of the profits, so could be anywhere from $2k-$7k)

I have a couple questions about Turbo Buicks in General...
Where can I read about the history of the 80's turbo buicks, and the "specs" of each different type? IE: What year did they come out with turbos, when did they start intercooling...etc
What's the difference between a regular GN, a T-Type, and a GNX?
How fast is a bone stock 87 GN? (approximately?)
How much should I expect to pay for an "unmodified" GN?
What's a good source to find GN's for sale?

Thanks... and I'm looking forward to learning all I can.

My best friend :)

But some quick short answers.

Only 86 and 87 were intercooled.
GN had special wheels, blackout trim, special interior, and badging. Only came in black. GNX was a limited GN, fender flares, fender louvuers, special wheels, engine tuning, different suspension. 547 made.
1/4 in high 13/low 14, 0-60 in about 5 sec.

What are the common cheap mods to do?
Can you put a granger valve on to use as a boost controller?
What's the max boost you can run without bigger injectors and a chip (Basically with just a boost controller)?
How much boost do they run stock?
I assume they were all automatics?

My goal for the car is mid-high 12's on street tires.

Thanks.

Yeah, I've read how you can "mod" the wastegate arm for more or less boost.
I'm still curious on how much boost you can run on the stock fuel system and on the stock chip?

Here's some history on my previous vehicles.

My original plan was to get a dodge dart, and do a custom turbo slant six project. However, I also wanted to do a EFI setup, and that means mucho more $$$, plus quite a bit of custom parts such as pistons, exhaust, modded tranny, and basically a whole new drive train. Also considered a 400 hp 360 build in a dart that would get me 12's, but gas mileage would be worse than my RC.

I've owned an 86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z that got a bad turbo, and was beaten hard. Sold it and got my truck. I was considering getting another 80's Turbo Dodge, but the cars aren't as easy to work on as others (turbo's in back by the firewall, and hard to get to), and are kind of limited to 12's, and if you get there, aren't going to last too terribly long, and I'm not a believer in their reliability anyways.

I currently own an 87 Dodge Ramcharger that I use for a daily driver. It's getting lifted and 33's this fall as well. I needed either 4wd or a front wheel drive car with studs all the way around as winters here produce a lot of snow, and we have a long uphill gravel driveway.

I've also considered getting a streetbike this fall, but decided that it might be a little too dangerous. However, 40 MPG and no insurance required is a major pro for getting a bike. It's still a good possibility.

With a GN, I'm not afraid to get in and start wrenching. I'm looking for either an 84 or 85 as they seem to be going for less $$$ and adding an intercooler wouldn't be that hard anyways. 20 + MPG on the highway is a big plus for me, as my RC gets about 14 MPG highway, 10 MPG city. So I want a GN for summer/nice weather driving.

Thanks,
Michael
