"New to the game" I've been reading this and other forums in anticipation of purchasing my first turbo Buick. I've learned and come to greatly appreciate the legacy and legend of the great Grand National. *What I would like to know is what to expect from performance and driveability of an 87! *I own several small and big block Chevys so I'm not used to driving a turbo car. So far I love the power and thrust after maybe 100 feet but from a stand still it perform unlike*
I have seen described in the forum. *I was looking to get a heart pounding jump off the line but I just can't see to build any low end boost! *It seems I have to floor the accelerator and Pin the throttle open to achieve any boost at all, which in turn leaves me desiring a little more response control. Is this normal? Remember I'm a newbie! Thanks fellas!!!! Bye the way the sellar explained the me that the final tune on the GN was done by Mike Licht which led me to this forum. So Mike if your out there I would love to hear from you. Thanks again!!!

How about building boost via power brake and then nailing the throttle as soon as some boost comes up?

What kind of turbo do you hvae, cam, TC size, etc

Give us some details other than when I nail it it doesnt perform like i though t a GN should

When i first bought my Gn (16 y/o) i too had no clue how to drive it. After putting a set of sticky tires and learning how to build boost on the brake it became a whole new animal. More info on the setup would help to lead you in the right direction.

I'm going to wake up in the morning and wrench around to see what my setup is. The sellar was a middle man and he has very few specifics. I know I have a new turbo, a trans shift kit, Borla exhaust, new injectors( size?) k&n intake, new fuel pump and a 50-75hp chip. That's the most I know until I go into the motor. I think I may just have a bad tune. Oh yeah, as far a brake tourque I'm breaking loose at around 2000 rpm with no turbo psi read out.

Turbo and torque converter are the major areas to consider. If they aren't matched then you'll lose a ton of performance. What kind of tires are you running? I have a stock converter with a te 44 turbo and i can hold 8 psi with mt drag radials.

Tires are white letter BF goodrich radials on factory rims. I have yet to take off my turbo shield, will I find clear identificAtion of the turbo I'm running on the housing?

unfortunatly not. If you wanted to post a couple pics i could give you an idea of what it could be.

It's very important you find out what injectors you have, if Mike Licht did the tune he probably knows or knew that info if he remembers the car.

I'd see if hopefully there is someone from the forum with experience with these cars to help you out and point you in the right direction.

Problem solved. It was the actuator arm being fully extended ( no tension at all). I'm putting in my scanmaster, water temp, oil pressure gauges today. So I'll keep learning from that.
