Hello ALL,

I just got my first 86 Grand National that i have being wanting for a long time and made a deal with a friend of mine which he is a member here. This will be my first turbo car as well, so now I need to learn about this buicks. I have a couple of other cars 67 Cadillac Convertible, 57 Studebaker President, 71 Cadillac Deville so I know I need to do alot of reading to learn this car.

My friend says the GN have:

Champion top end ported n polished
212 Cam
T60 Turbo
Blue Injectors
Bored .20
Diamond Pistons

We have not Dyno test the car yet because right now is in the body shop getting painted. He says it should be 400-450 HP.

I have also being reading and I think I want to do the following in the future.

FAST SYSTEM
one of those loggers
UPGRADE TURBO
UPGRADE INJECTORS
UPGRADE INTER COOLER
Put disc brakes on the back and drill rotors all around it
A NICE TACH
Fuel Cell
Turbo Delay
Maybe some people might not like this but I want 22x11 on the back and 22x9 in the front staggered 3 piece rims all black.

Please feel free to make comments, suggestions, and direct me to sites or articles for newbies.

Congrats and welcome. Don't be in a hurry to throw parts at it. Read and research a lot. You would be surprised what alky and a good tune will do. Learn as much as you can. This site is a great first step.

DAVID thanks but I have them. Right now is in the shop getting paint and I have everything original weather strips and bumper fillers original GM.

thanks BOOStFREAK, yeah i know i have to do alot of reading and learn how turbo engines work. Am use to all motor SBC 350, and big blocks with carbs...etc. But i will learn. First thing i want to do after getting the car back from the body shop is take it to the dyno to see the numbers.

Welcome aboard. Good looking car. Take your time with what you have. Get a scanmaster and hook up with some like minded buick nuts in your area. Their knowledge is invaluable.

Welcome to the world of Turbo Buicks. I recently purchased my first one too.

You can learn A LOT from everyone on this forum, I know I have :)

Looks good. I will say a turbo Buick is NOTHING like a small or big block Chevy. Heck I played with both before crossing over.

Main thing to worry about is keeping a good tune and ZERO knock when getting into the boost. Knock can/will blow an engine.

Read on this board and also gnttype.org which is considered the turbo Buick bible. Buy a Scanmaster if you don't already have one and learn how to use it. I didn't see them mentioned but hopefully your car has an upgraded fuel pump and a hot wire kit as well as an adjustable fuel PSI regulator. Also if you don't already have one, a Turbo tweak chip is a good upgrade in addition to an aftermarket boost gauge and a good knock gauge/knock alarm. In fact all of the upgrades I mentioned are ones you should have/want to have and what I would consider mandatory.

As mentioned don't be quick to throw parts at it. Learn to tune with what you have for optimal results. You may be surprised.

Welcome aboard, knock WILL kill your engine quick. I'm still learning myself but I can say how much it helps to have someone close by to lend a hand. Everyone one here will be glad to give input just listen to all BEFORE you act.

Add some theft deterrants south florida is /was a very bad place when it came to gn thefts in recent years....

Welcome to the board. These guys are true experts in knowledge on these cars. That's no joke. I've never seen a problem YET, that these teriffic guys couldn't solve. When you talk with them, keep in mind that it's like having a talking shop manual on your screen.

Your GN looks beautiful. It does look like an '87 instead of an '86 due to the solid black grill you have on it. They could have been switched to make it look like an '87. Look at your door straps, an '86 will be black, the '87 are gray.

But anyway, welcome. We are here to help you in anyway. Once again, you've come to the right board.... these guys know these cars like the back of thier hands.

It's really nice that newbies post pictures of thier GNs or Turbos when they join. Thanks.

Bruce '87 Grand National

Thank you all for the feedback.

Well I know how important this forums are as im also building a 57 studebaker and a 67 Cadillac, am a member of other forums and i know about people helping eachother on forums. Posting pictures is always a big help. My friend mention that he thinks the GN is 400-450 HP but we need to get it tested after i get out of the body shop, is getting paint inside the car and outside, It will be like a month before I get it.

Funny thing is that I have not even driven it yet, I made the deal with a friend while the car was on the body shop, I will get the car finish like in 1 month :(, anxiety is killing me.
