I dunno where you are getting your stuff, but $10K wouldn't cover it in my neck of the woods....you could easily spend half of that on a tough 200 trans

the other half would go to a decent rebuild with caps & girdle and then you can start buying the cheap stuff...you know, turbos, intercoolers, fuel systems, et al.....not to mention suspension, safety requirements....well, you know:D

so much to do. Yes, I agree, I have LOTS of reading to do. It took me 2 years to finally come to a conclusion on what to run in my LS1 car. Finally got this for best driveablity and power. I have been reading non stop for 2 days now. No end in sight until I go back to work on Monday. Then home, more reading, so on and so on.

Dang Russ, bad ass ride man. I clicked on your link. What did that cost you to put together if you dont mind my asking?

The engine in my car right now was about 6340$

Machine work with JE pistons, rings, bearings, balanced and caps....2750$
Heads, rockers, cam kit, gaskets and injectors....3590$
BB T-netics 70-Qtrim with actuator 2000$
Cotton FM 1100$ (I got it last year less$)
Tranny & convertor was 2900$
Double pumper 500$

Ok, I was off by 3000$. That's ok, Mr Z-28 got the money
:D

Thanks. I got another more aggresive combo motor ready to go for next year sittin in the living room. :D

Headed to Cottons at the end of the month for a 3 1/2" exhaust, tear out the heater control box, New Gen external wastegate and controller, Wolf bar and finish my roll cage.

Then I'll be ready for a 400 with a brake.

Be sellin my ATR single shot exhaust system, and sway bar with SSM lowers in Feb.

well, Im not loaded by any means but I can handle the $$$. I just dont want to do it more than once ya know, another reason I am seeking advice from the people who already know. Thats a nice 10 sec ride. Maybe I will go with something like you have, looks mean and runs like it too. I am still lost on alot of the vocab here. Like 9/11 in trans talk? Is this converter stuff or ????

Yup, 9" convertor with an 11" clutch. I love those convertors. One thing I'll miss is being able to drive my car to work and stuff. Once I do all this I won't be driving it much anymore.:(

aw man, there is a few LS1 cars running a TH400 setup and 1 guy I know of running it with a Gear Vendor. It took him awhile to get it all straight but he seems to love it now. After he broke a bunch of stuff if I recall the post correctly.
I still want to be able to get in it and run to the store or let the wife do the same......

Read Read Read and then some

Do you want to take the car to the track 1 or 2 times a year, or1-2 times a week.

Lesson #1...... DON'T LET WIFE DRIVE HOTROD!

A 2004R will work fine for what you want to do. It would work fine probably for me too but 4000$ is wayyyy too much. I'll swap em out when I want 4th gear to cruise.

lol, yes I know of rule #1
But............Wife had to drive Z28 for 3 months after she overheated her Quad4 Cutlass. She took it 20 miles back/forth to work the whole time. Talk about nervous. Especially since the Cutlass was her 1st car and she failed her drivers test 3 times when she got the license 3 years ago. And she is 27! Yep, no license until she was 24. Only reason she got it then was my command said she had to have one for me to take orders here. She had to be able to drive. Strange, but true.
Good luck with your new set up. Hope it hauls!

Russ Merritt

Not to change the subject but I notice you run the ME-R. Do you need to have the AC unit to make this system work on your car. Just curious??

Cheapest way

If your wanting the cheapest path to a nice GN daily driver that runs 10's, sell the one that you just bought and buy a car that is running the number you want. It is the cheapest way by far. To go from where you are to where you wanna be is gonna cost some bucks (engine, turbo, intercooler and tranny alone are gonna be around 10 grand depending on how much you do yourself) and it would be way cheaper to just buy a different car with the rollbar and everything already done. Otherwise, these guys have given you some good advice. Good Luck.:D :D

thanks for everything guys. I thought the turbo was gonna be cheaper to get in the 10's. It took $12K on the Z.

Good luck with it,like everyone said it,s a money pit but what 10 sec car is'nt I'm going to a 400 w/brake so i've got a built 200 w/ all billet internals for sale w/ 9/11 l/u converter 3400/stall.
This tranny has 20 passes on it and shifts perfect. It was built by Bruce tolles at pts. I'll take 2100.00 complete w/ art carr deep cast pan.
