Hi guys I just picked up an 87 GN w/76000 original. It is all stock excpet for performance exhaust nad a chip. I would like to upgrade the car and am loking for a place to start. BTW, Turbo numbers mean nothing to me. I know absolutely nothing about them. I coould not tell you the diff between a TE44 and a TA60 or something like that. Any and all info GREATLY appreciated.

I also see from reading a couple posts in here that the Ford Power Stroke intercooler is a good upgrade? Is this hard to do and what is the time/cost involved.

Woe buddy, slow down you have some work to do before you need to worry about intercoolers, but to answer your question they say that PS intercoolers are pretty good for the price if you don't mind cutting on your car.

Ok here's what you need to do.

Fuel Pump w/hotwire kit.
Adj. Fuel pressure regulator.
Scan tool of some sort.
Adj. Boost Actuator.
Tires.
Fun.

Now after this things are done you can go a couple of different ways, we'll worry about that later.

Do a search on the above items and you will find more then you will ever need.

oops sorry, ok I will get the search going. I was jusst reading some info on the cars on the net. Trying to get up to speed where I am with my LS1. I've had it for 2 years so I know alot more about it. Thanks for the info and keep it coming!!!

No reason to be sorry..Just trying to get you started on the right track.

Is this a decent company to get parts from, Aggressive Auto Performance?
Anyone you guys can reccomend for buying my parts from?
thanks

First thing I would do is a good tune-up, just to make sure everything is operating like it should be. Then read as much as you can about these cars another good website is www.gnttype.org , they have a ton of info on everyting from tune-ups to turbos and intercoolers. What kind of exhaust and chip do you have?

Oh yeah I didn't even think about that...Look up spring cleaning at gnttype.org Very good infomation in that site.

Good catch aclr8r I meant to say something about that in my 1st post and forgot.

I have always had luck with Aggrssive Performance, I got my 009's and other stuff from them. Also they actually work on these things and know what they are talking about.

I'd watch out for Full throttle he used to own Modern Muscle Car and screwed a couple of friends of mine.

Read everything you can on the www.gnttype.org site and come here to ask any questions. Wish I knew about these sites before I bought my GN. I was lucky and bought a good one.:D

009's are 42.5# injectors. along with what these guys are saying in getting the car running properly first, and tuning it up, you also need to set a goal. What are you looking to do with the car? Is it going to be street driven mostly? Things like that, after you decide what you want, you can start purchasing the big stuff like turbo's and intercoolers and so forth. Also look at the signatures at the bottom of some of the posts to see what parts these guys use to achieve there times.

Aggressive Auto Performance

Bruce at Aggressive will take care of you,I cant say enough about their customer service. And they are the cheapest TR vendor I know of:D

Outstanding, excellent welcome here with all the info. To answer a question, I am looking for very LOW 11's HIGH 10's daily driveable, since I have the Z28.

get out your checkbook!

stick to mid 11's and you'll still have some $$ in the bank........

Well, it seems there is a much better gain for the money with the turbo stuff. The parts are half the price of the LS1 stuff I got. My 408 short block was near $7k, another $2500 for a trans and $2k for a rearend.

maybe you'll go faster per $$ spent, but a 10 sec TR is a money pit supreme......you can get by fairly cheaply to about 11.5 or so

For low 11's high 10's you'll need everything evryone else said plus a very nice set of heads, big turbo, worked tranny with a nice stall converter, big intercooler, all the fuel system upgrades that are needed anyway, and a nice bottom end would be nice too. This is to do it safely with moderate boost. You have lots of reading to do before you mess around and have to do things two and three times.

Cool! Someone not afraid of spendin ;) Call Champion and get some GN1s, send that block out and have center caps put on, set of JEs, file fit rings, 206 roller cam, balance it, get a 66 or 70 turbo, Max Effort, 72# injectors, call one of the tranny gods and get a built 200 and some slicks and 10s there you are! Probably cost around 10,000. Ready..........GO!
