NGK plug gap

THats a good question that I'd like to know the answer to too

I run my ngk's at .030

So what NGK plug should I run if I am a low 13 high 12 second car? Does the fact that I run ALKY make a difference? I currently use the CR43 plugs.

Finally, I got my plugs today. Ordered them from Northeast turbo for $2 a piece. Now I see on the box the torque settings are 18-25 lb./ft for iron heads for gasket type plugs I think and 11-18 lb/ft for taper seat type plugs. DId you follow those for the plugs or you just torqued the plugs to 20 lb/ft.?

Went to buy a set of NGK UR5s for the V6 in the IROC, and all they had were NGK UR4s!? Is th UR4 a different heat? Anybody even hear of this plug? I went ahead and bought it because the AC43s I had would start to foul at anything more than 13# of boost. But I haven't gotten to really try them out since the day after I installed them, I started swapping the rear end and haven't finished that yet.......

Are the UR-5s the same heat range as Autolite 23s?

UR4's are the stock heat range or the equal to a R43TS. The higher the number, the cooler the plug (don't ask me why)??? The UR5's are like the R42TS and the UR6 is even cooler yet. If you have a TTA, then you need a TR series plug which is longer. On the TTA's the UR5 is actually equal to the stock heat range, so I just ordered a set of TR6's which are 1 heat range cooler, or the same idea as running a CR42 or UR5 in a TR head.

isn't the stock heat range an r44ts?i thought the 43 was one heat range colder than stock.

i've seen an ngk ur45,i'm betting that's the r43 equivalent...

Yep, with R43's youre already colder than stock. I think stock for 86-87 cars are R44TS's(.035 gap) and for 84-85 cars its R45TSX's(.060 gap).
I guess that means Im running 3 levels colder than stock with R42's/UR5's, huh? And Im gapping them almost half what stock specs call for, never stopped and thought about it..... hmmm.

I'm running platinum tip UR5's here (NGK G-power UR5GP). Farm and Fleet near me has a good stock of NGK's. They even carry the Iridium versions (UR5IX). The NGK's appear to be much higher quality than the Delcos, the car seems to like them. 24PSI and 25 degrees of timing on 100 octane no problem.

Anyone else have experience with the platinum or iridium NGK's?

Just for the information. I purchased the UR6 which is the next step colder than the ur5
