I am having some problems with my 200-4r and I am hoping someone can help. The unit seems to be shifting just fine other than the fact that it will not go into 4th gear unless I am completely off of the throttle. If I get up to around 3K rpm in third and completely let off, the rpms drop and I know it is in 4th because if I pull the shifter back into 3rd, it downshifts. It I didn't do this, I really would not know that it was in fourth. If I apply ANY throttle, the car goes back into third. YOu cannot feel a downshift, but it does fall back into third the moment you touch the throttle.

I have played with the TV calbe extensively and it seems to have NO affect on this situation. As I mentioned, the other shifts are just fine.

Any thoughts? The people who sold me the transmission are saying that there is a valve sticking in the valve body and they want me to try to take it down (drop the pan and remove the valve body) to get it unstuck. Does that make sense?

Thanks,

ANybody? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This thing will just not stay in 4th unless I am completely off the gas.

The trans guy is now saying that there is something hanging up in the valve body so he wants to send me a new one and have be swap them. Does that make sense??

It is possible you have a valve sticking in the valve body the 3-4 shift valve , or the 3-4 throttle valve , its also possible the overdrive frictions have failed , theirs a 3-4 accumulator under the valve body that could also have a problem. You need to start by putting a pressure guage to the fourth clutch pressure port and go from their.

Charlie, - thanks for the heads up. It's probably here in the forum, but do you know where to buy a pressure guage and where that port is? Unfotunately I am clueless about how to do it and how to read it.

THanks.

You could have a leak in the governor circuit also. I had one before that caused overactive 4-3 kickdowns. Not as bad as yours but definitely a problem. It didnt effect the other gears as much. Had a very late 2-3.
