I just got my other 84 in today Brad knows about it, any ways I was screwing with it here and there, and it starts up fine and was idling up and down so I replaced the intake tube and it idles smoother. The problem really is when I hit the gas it just wants to die:eek: if you flutter the gas pedal you can get the rpms up without it dieing and it does spit and spuder as well. The boost gauge show 20 of vacuum not boost and the wastegate does not move either on it. I know it is not seized up but the car builds no boost:confused: I pulled the plugs and they look like it is running real rich. Any thoughts??

Can you post some scantool data?

Do the chip/injectors match?
Exhaust leaks?
Faulty O2?
FP too high?
Bad plugs/wires/coilpack?
TPS/IAC settings correct?
Faulty MAF?
Bad grounds?

No scan tool yet, but real soon..
Stock chip and stock injectors as well
I saw a little crack in the driver side header but my WH1 has one way bigger then that and it never seemed to effect it that much, But I think the passenger side has huge cracks cause it is load, but very hard for me to see any on that side.
O2 is new, but it was on there when I got the car......
FP was set at 50psi and it would climb well over 60psi when I gave it gas, I lowered it down to around 45psi to see if that would help and it didn't:rolleyes:
I think it may be in the wires and plugs, I think the coil pack has been changed over to the 86/87 setup, but not sure on that. I did notice that the coil pack assybly was not bolted on correctly and I am suprised it did not fall off into the fan:biggrin:
Tps/Iac settings, I am not sure at all. I had spoke to Brad about that and the wife was in a big hurry so I had to cut it short..... Care to explain the settings for me on these???
I don't think the MAF is bad. It looks newer but who knows. I remember when my TA had a bad MAF you could tap it with the handle of a small screw driver and the car would run like crap and you tap it and it would smooth out for a bit. Yes I know that is reall half ass but it does work;)
Grounds all appear to be there and in good shape.....
I myself am leaning towards the ingition system but who knows. I just don't like the fact that you hit the gas peddle it dies!!!!! And it will idle down so low it will almost die and pull itself back up and then down again....

I would start with the headers. Think about how much the wastegate opens to control boost. It isn't much. If you have giant cracks in the headers, it's easy for it to bleed off enough exhaust to stop it from building boost.. It will throw the 02 sensor off too. The 02 will pick up the extra oxygen from the header cracks and richen the mixture. It's a place to start until you get the scantool.

I was reading the paperwork for this car and the ad as well, and the ad does state the right header needs to be replaced, might explain wht there is a nice one that looks like it flows more and beter then the factory on in the trunk:rolleyes: The previous owner also said it has a new crank sensoe and cam sensor and a new coil pack and module and plugs and wires, but the wire have seen better days in my opinion. Would a real bad header leak cause it to die and idle like that???

Do you know if it has ever run right since the new cam sensor has been installed? It could be 180 out.

I adjust mine differently than most people and I'll get bashed for saying it but I roughly line it up where it has to go and try and start the car. If it won't start I make small adjustments to the sensor until it does. You could always turn it 180 degrees and make small adjustments until the car starts. It will either run better or worse but it won't be the same.

Have you checked all your lines going to the wastegate and fuel pressure regulator? Make sure everything is in order. Do you have an extra MAF sensor you could swap in there?
Engine light on? You can't get any scan tool readings? O2 cross counts good? (get a cheap scan tool if you have too!)
If you header is cracked bad enough too cause a rich condition you should be able to hear it.
Are you getting boost at little or half throttle?

Oh ****!!!!

I changed the plugs and what a differance!!! Boy the cops were not happy with that;) I got a ticket for speeding and sqealing of tires. Damn it:mad: I think I turned him on to the dark side, He was impressed:p

That was an expensive lesson! :o
Glad she is running better.
Now, go fix the exhaust leaks ........... she'll be faster!

Edit:
Reset your IAC - IAC Reset Procedure

You changed the plugs and all is good......sweet! But, why did the plugs foul to begin with? Its only a matter of time 'til they foul again......

They did it again!!!!

They did foul out again and It fried the plug wires as well on the passenger side!!! Real pain in the but. I guess I have more work to do:rolleyes:

I would definatly check the 02 counts and make sure thats not whats causing your plugs to foul. Also make sure there is no pre-02 sensor exhaust leaks. Something is causing you to dump too much fuel in her.

Do you have a scan tool? I can't say this enough at the very least you should have the dinosour OTC 2000 handheld scanner. Real cheap!

You are correct. I had looked at it last night and the right header is cracked right before the O2 sensor:rolleyes: I have another but I will be putting it on in the next few days. I also have a 87 ecm to put int but I am not sure if I have to change the chip or not, and I have a powerlogger scan tool but I need to get ahold of my buddys laptop to use it;)

That header is fun to get off too! Gotta remove the downpipe or pull it out of the way the best you can. Pull the A/C to the side too. It pretty easy after the 10,000 time! ;)
You can install the 87 ECM with a stock 87 chip and your cal-pak. You will need the 87 MAF sensor too or it will run really rich.....trust me! Should be a sticky on the 87 ECM swap to give you more detailed info. I just had the 87 ECM with 87 MAF and then a custom chip to delete the rest of the crap your suppose to do.

Ok!!

I have the power logger but yet to have anyone loan me a laptop to use it:frown: I have been working on the car pretty much all night , getting the right header off. I see the crack alot easier now and it is right before the O2 sensor. I know I have a aftermarket right header and cross over pipe and down pipe, but I only have a factory left header on the car and that is cracked as well, so I will be welding it also when I pull it out. I noticed who ever did the exhaust on this car welded the downpipe to the exhaust system:mad: I also pulled all the plus on it and 5 plugs look fine but smell of fuel real bad, and the #1 plug looks brand new like it was never in the car:confused: Oh and when I turn the key to the on but no start the fuel gauge only hits 20psi, I don't think that is right when it was running it was at 50psi give or take. But the #1 plug gets me, cause I know for sure it was hitting on all cylinders after I changed the plugs and then the car started to miss again. I pull them and it was like that plug was just put in there. Oh well more to find out in the morning:rolleyes:

Start with getting those headers welded up, don't forget they are stainless steal! I would throw a new set of plugs in why your at it...cheap insurance.
That #1 plug might have just gotten lucky..... ;)
The fuel gauge only hitting 20#.......bad regulator? It should hit whatever your regulator is set for and slowly go down while the car sits. Thats something you could address once you get her all back together.
