Hey all. Just wondering if there was a way to check the converter clutch?? I don't have any converter lock up. I can watch the tach on the datalogger and when it say the TCC is commanded, the rpms never drop. I checked the circuit, the brake switch, the soloniod is working, I had 3 different soloniod in there. I chenged the pressure switch, nothing. I checked all the grounds. I recently put a D5 converter in the car, had a D6. The D6 locked up. But I have since did some shift modifications to it, I put a 200 servo in it, yadda yadda. Is there anything other than the TCC noid, the pressure swith, power and ground that will keep the converter from locking up?? Thank for looking and I appreciate the replies.

No idea's?? I just wanted to make sure before I yanked the converter, again, and put the stocker back in there. If the stocker locks up that means I got a lemon converter. Just want to be sure there isn't something I am missing in the troubleshooting procedures here. Thanx again.

Ihave the same problem.

Hi I finished my rebuild on my 2004r last friday in my gnx. While I had the tranny out I found two wires cut that go to the tranny. I asked at two different tranny shops about the wires cut they both said it was the cause of the trans failure. I spliced the wires back togather. I decided I should make sure the converter is locking and unlocking correctly. I followed the procedure in the service manuel. With the motor at normal tempature drive at a stedy speed of 50 to 55 mph. lightly press the brake pedal and you should feel the converter unlock and the rpms increase and then lightly press the gas pedal and you should feel the converter lock and the rpms drop. I did all this and I cannot feel or see any difference either way.My wife has an 89 turbo trans am I drove it the same way and cannot see or feel any difference in it either. Does this mean that both cars the torque converter is not locking and unlocking correctly? I plan to do more testing and if I figure out anything I will post it.

Yeah, I checked out the circuit and all. The stock low stall converter I could see the rpms drop and rise while I data logged. The indicater on my datalog screen would light and go out with the tcc engage/disengage. So it is definitely not working now. I am gonna yank it out and have a local tranny shop rebuild it w/new lock-up clutch for me in a few days. Just have to yank the tranny out again.

Did more testing

I did more testing by following the step by step procedure in the service manuel. Everything seemed to be ok except the resistance of the tcc coil. The service manuel said the resistane should be more than 20 ohms mine is only about 2 ohms. The manuel also said too low of resistance in the coil like I have could destroy the driver for the tcc located inside the computer. So I have decided to try a new tcc coil first and I hope I do not have to replace the computer. I hope this works.

I have 3 TCC soleniods, 1 brand new, 1 1 year old, and the other stock, all 3 were 27 ohms. Good luck with your troubleshooting, I have a bad conveter.

torque converter fixed

Hi everyone I finally got my converter to lock and unlock. I replaced the tcc selinoid and everything seems to be ok now. I used an aftermarket from the local advanced auto parts it seems to work fine. When I lightly touch the brake pedal the rpms increase only about 200 or 300 on the tack. At least I can see a difference on the tach but I cannot feel anything in the trans. Thanks liquid 8 for the info.
