My car just died while driving home. I have no fuel pressure. Pump wont turn on but works if i connect it direct to 12 volts. Any ideas?

Just a thought, but did you check how much gas is in your tank? I hate to admit it but the same thing happened to me once. I ended up dropping the tank before I discovered it was empty.

If it has fuel pressure with 12v to black connector behind the alternator, check fuel pump relay

It had 3/4 of a tank of gas. I just pulled the tank. The pump works if i hard wire it to the battery but not in the factory harness. The factory plug only has 6-7 volts with the pump in or out.

Fuse? Relay? Actual wires have cut or loose connection? Bad ground? check that circuit.

Hot wire kit? Relay is under the rear bumper. Been there, thanks for reminding me. Mine is disconnected for that reason. I knew I needed a relay for something.

Car will still run with a dead fuel pump relay. Heck, it'll even start and run with the relay completely removed.

I'm thinking a fuse blew, or a hotwire problem (if there is one installed).

Hmmm, when the hot wire relay for the pump went on mine the first time it had to be towed before I thought of that. Got it home replaced the relay and it was fine. The second time I just unplugged it returning it to stock. Are you saying something else is wrong or do you mean it will run if the stock relay under the hood is bad?

All fuses are good and i dont have hot wire kit. I have all stock wiring with a walbro pump. Where is the factory relay i will check that next?

What I mean is, the stock fuel pump relay under the hood can be unplugged/removed and the car will still start and run just fine as soon as oil pressure closes it's relay (which is in parallel with the fuel pump relay).
Having a bad/removed stock fuel pump relay will only cause a "no prime" situation.

Check the fusible links down by the starter. Have you put 12v to the test lead behind the alternator? If so, does the pump come on?

I have a greenwire with a black connector behind the alt. If thats the test lead then no the pump still wont come on.

ok gray wire with black connector. I put 12 volts to it and pump comes on.
Whats that mean?

I checked all fuses. I dont really know what the hot wire fuse is. If thats next to the relays under the hood on the fender then its ok.

Just put pump back in tank and tank in car. Filled with gas and primed with 12 volts to test lead. Car starts and runs for 5-10 seconds then shuts down anymore ideas?

Post where you live, then somebody on this board let him borrow a fuel pump to test with. Maybe this pump is going bad...

You said the pump works when you plug it directly into 12Volts, but did you try running pump for a little while and make sure it doesnt poop out in 15 seconds like stated above?

Worth a try...
