just finishing up the rebuild did all the oiling upgrades in jack merkals article and even went with the hv pump and still no oil to the roller rockers on drivers side of the motor. The passenger side has oil but the drivers side has none except for # 1 exhaust .I primed the motor and now let the motor run for 7 minutes and couldn't get anything up to so I had to shut it down. everything is brand new :push rods are longer comp cams ,t&d's are new stock ratio lifters and cam are lunati and are new. I have 65 lbs at the filter through my mechanical gauge .I am stumped what should I do

Did you install the cam bearing in right orientation? Also check the small plugs that go in behind the cam sprocket. Did you check the lifters, are they unshrouding the oil feed lifter gallery? Are the lifters the right size for the lifter bore? If not, the oil will be hemmorging out. Do the push rods have restrictors? Roller Rockers do not need much oil. Possible obstruction in oil gallery.

When you primed the motor before start up, did you check for oil on the top end?

yeah when I primed the motor with the intake off i saw oil coming out of every lifter. but then once I put the push rods on I couldn't get any oil through them but the after a little time running i started to get oil on the passenger side and the finally got oil to # 1 exhaust so i just dont understand why I havent got oil to and driver side push rod. I mean should I just let it run for a few more minutes and see what happens because it took a few minutes to get oil to the passenger side :But I would have thought that after 7 minutes of running i should have oil right?

Sure the push rods are just right? If not, the adjusting screws on the rocker arms will not let the oil flow thru the rocker arm.

rog it sounds like the oil is not getting through the hole in the top of the pushrod and out through the rocker as Blown&Injected mentioned. You need specific length pushrods so that the oil holes on the rocker are not blocked. On my harland sharp rockers, the pushrod adjuster screw has an oiling hole in it. If you are too far in or too far out with the adjuster, the oil holes on the rocker get blocked. Pull your rockers off and look at your adjuster to see if the holes are blocked. If they are, move the adjuster until the holes are un-blocked, and get the right length pushrods by measuring with an adjustable one. Dont run the motor anymore or each pushrod cups will get burned up along with your pushrods!

Also is Merkel's article on the web somewhere? Got a link? Id like to look at it. Thanks.

thanks guys I believe that you guys are right. can anybody let me know a ball park figure for push rod size. I believe that i bought to long of push rods. I have a lunati 210/ 205 cam if that makes any difference. and I will tryto find that article by jack merkal.

+1

Push rods will vary in price depending on where you get them. As far as size, you really need to measure. My machine shop let me borrow one of their adjustable measuring push rods when I did my motor in 05, so maybe you would have some luck there. Full Throttle sells a push rod length checker if you don't have any luck finding one local.

Depending on what size you need, I have brand new set that I didn't use cause they were too long for me. The are 8.225"

Do not guess!!! Get yourself an adjustable pushrod, put your rocker adjuster nut right in the middle of the rocker, put the adjustable pushrod on a valve that is closed, preload your lifter as needed, and then remove the pushrod and measure it. This is the only way to be as accurate as possible for your motor.

Well said!
(Or buy a set of adjustable pushrods like I did  )

Not sure on stock PR length. Do a search on here and I'm sure you'll find some info. Glad you got it figured out.
