Hey guys here is my problem. I seem to have no power going to my ALDL connection. I swapped out the computer and still no power. Any ideas? Coil pack is throwing out good juice, new turbotweak chip installed. I was wondering is it possible that there maybe a in line fuse blown somewhere? any and all feed back will be appreciated thanks, turbotype87@yahoo.com

Did this just happen? Was the car running OK before?

Check the orange wire by the battery, fusible links by the starter, and the grounds behind the passenger side head.

Ive been having alot of electrical problems for awhile. My extender wouldnt hold my adjustments half the time and there was alot of weird stuff going on. It would jump into valet mode when the chip supposedly doesnt even have that feature. I had unstable BLM's and knock problems that shouldnt have been there. Bad mileage too. The other night I was thinking I had no power to the ALDL because my scanmaster would turn on, then turn off after a couple seconds when it was done booting. It was by luck that I found my orange ECM power was bad. I grabbed the wire and heard a click. I kept moving it around and kept getting this click, and noticed my fuel pressure gauge would jump every time I did it. Right where the wire goes into the fuseable link, the wires had all broken, but the insulation was still intact. It appeared to be all in good shape. Had I not checked it out with a multimeter I wouldnt have known. There was literally no wire sticking out of the link for me to solder it back together with. I had to use the soldering iron to melt the plastic at the end of the link, around the wire just so I could get in there. threw in a bead of solder, soldered the other end back in there, and potted it all around with JB quick so it wouldnt break again. Went back into the car and the scanmaster still wasnt working. WTF? I wiggled the wire around and it came back on, but a loose wire shouldnt have caused it to come on and shut back off after the scanmaster's bootup. Anyway my BLM's are suddenly extremely stable. Theyve never been so good. The power increase is undeniable, although Im not sure why. Maybe it was in limp mode or something? Does anyone know if the computer has another power source that would allow it to start and run this whole time with the orange wire not sending any power? Is it just power for RAM or something? Everytime you wash your car or it rains, water gets in there and will get those wires wet in that area, which can cause alot of internal corrosion, but leave the insulation dried up, but intact. I would check it out just for kicks and see what you find.

orange wire is connected, i haven't checked the grounds or fuseable links. i wasn't sure if there were any fuseable links on the positive cable wire. thanks for the input

There's no 12v supplied to the ALDL

Guys this is my brothers car. He was coming out of a car wash, started going down the road, and car stalled. He got it running but the car seems like it is running on 3 cylinders by that I mean it BEARLY idles and runs with black smoke out of the pipes. I hooked up my OTC 4000 meter to it but it can't get ANY reading from the ADL port. On the meter it says "NO DATA AT ADL PORT, MAKE SURE KEY IS ON"!! His scanmaster shows 2.1 when you first turn key to on postion like it should, then goes blank like it isn't getting anything from ADL. I'm thinking computer isn't getting any power. We already swapped out computer with known good unit. I checked all fuses and connections that I could think of, but haven't crawled under car to check fusable link yet. I'm just wondering if anyone experienced this problem?? Thanks to all who replyed.

If the car runs, even poorly, the computer has to be working, maybe not correctly, but is running. Are you sure he didn't get water sucked up into the air intake and ruin the MAF sensor? That would make it run pig rich. Still not sure why you can't get data from the computer though. If you connect "A" to "B" on the ALDL connector, does the check engine light flash?

Could be running on the "back up" chip- it's burned for 28 lb injectors, so anything bigger would be REAL rich.

This is EXACTLY the problem I ran into 2 nights ago. Im not talking about the fusible links by the starter motor. Im talking about the one for the orange ECM wire. The wire appeared completely intact, but right where the wire goes into the plastic body of the link, the wires were all broken internally, but the insulation was still there. Very hard to catch, but it cured the issue, after cycling the ignition (after repairing the wire) wiggling the wire a bit where it plugs into the ALDL. Get a voltmeter and check for power coming into that wire at the connector that we unplug to reset the computer.

Happened to me a few years ago. Engine started running like absolute cr@p and couldn't find anything wrong. Pulled the ECM and started inspecting wires, found pin "C16" inside the ECM connector to be missing. (BTW, that's where the above mentioned orange wire terminates). Yup, completely gone! Since it did run fine at one time, I must ASSume it was there and became "lost" whenever I separated the connector from the ECM. Both connectors were very corroded. Oddly, the engine would run without direct battery power (the orange wire), but not worth driving. A spare ECM from John DiCarlo made everything lovely again.
