No start, dash lights dim

I have a tow truck coming monday if i cant fix this myself over the weekend. When the key is in the on position the dash lights go on then they dim, then back on again. when you press the brake pedal the door open buzzer gets real loud. Turn the key to start and nothing. I've charged the battery checked most of the grounds that i can find, cleaned a couple, still same thing.

I'm looking for any advice you guys can give me before I spend an arm and a leg at the shop

Sounds like a problem at the starter (wiring, fusible links) or the starter itself.

I didnt think the starter because lights dim when the key is in the run position not the start position. but what do i know
how do you test a starter

So you are just sitting in the car, headlights off, then you turn the key on and the dash lights come on and off? Then the key in ignition alarm gets louder when you press the brake pedal?

Yeah thats it , check engine light, tach lights, dome light, even under the hood light dims. head lights are off. ignition alarm gets louder with your foot on the brake pedal, key is in run position not start. Kinda strange. First I thought maybe I have a bad wire grounding out some where, and that could still be the case I just cant find it.

Just to clarify, not the dash back lighting for night driving, im talking about the normal lights that come on when the key is on
