It looks like I may be into a TR in the next few weeks.
It's a non-G80 car.
What are my options to convert it to a Posi? Can I simply drop in Posi/Auburn diff? Any other issues to address with these cars? Axles? Is the non-Posi housing different?
Thanks for any info.

An improved factory style Eaton from gears r us is $330. You want one with 28 splines for an 8.5". At that time you may want to upgrade axles to Moser forged stock replacements. It will cost somewhere between $100-250 to have a shop install the posi.

Beautiful...thanks.
Also, any issues from the Buick camp with the Auburn units?
I know the Ford 8.8 Auburns are not reliable, nor rebuildable in the event of breakage. I'm running a Ford HD diff, 31-spline hardened Mosers and a girdle in the GT. I have a few friends who have broken multiple Auburns. One in a high-12 second NA '95 GT and one in a 10/11-second LX. The 95 was only ever on DR's, the LX has run on DOT's.

Don't forget new bearings as well.

My GN was not a G80 from the factory and I just recently upgraded to the Eaton. Nice unit which is rebuildable if need be. I think the Eaton itself was $342.

Good luck on your purchase.

If you can find a good G80 unit, you cant go wrong with it. They're incredibly strong. I put one in my non G80 GN way back in 88 and have been beating it to death ever since. And pushing it deep into the 11's for the last 3 years. It's never failed me yet.

But you're right. The auburns are not the way to go.
