YouTube - First 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L 4V In The 8's! 8.89@148MPH

Holy hell, I wish GM would take notes on this car... I believe the new 4v motors are quite possibly the best bang for the buck new car out there right now. This is the first ford car I have ever considered buying!

What's yall's opinions on the new 2011s? This is one of the few cars that I'd be worried about on the street... and I dont say that about many lightly modded cars.

I have been thinking the same thing lately! I'd take a new Mustang over a new (and played out)Camaro rite now. And I've always been a GM guy!

I think Ford really got everything right this time! With the new 5.0 mustang, taurus sho, f150 w/ecoboost v6, and even the base 3.7 v6 mustang, we're gonna have our hands full! Maybe this will prompt GM to put twin turbos on the 3.6 to even the score a little.

I like them so much that i'm taking delivery of one the middle of Dec. (see sig)

I agree 100%

I feel the same way. Unless they drop the price of the cts-v coupe under 40k us gm guys have nothing to compete with the new 5.0

I posted some pics of a new 5.0 the other day in the picture/video thread. We're taking it to the track after some bolt on''s and a tune. The new 5.0 has an incredible amount of a learning curve. I am impressed with the all around car. The new COWmaro is going to have to lose some weight and have a lsx tvs blower setup in it to have any chance of swaying my opinion back toward it.

I recently did a thread on this....

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/turbo-lounge/332422-anyone-test-drove-new-11-mustang-5-0-yet.html

If I had the cash to buy one, I think I would....not because i want to be like the millions of people along with their cousins, aunts and grandma's who also own one, but for the simple fact the new 5.0 Mustangs are a 12.7 in the 1/4 mile car....stock.

Add to that it's a new car, with all the creature comforts plus the handling I hear is really good...in a nutshell it beats the hell out of driving a 23 year old car that handles like a farm truck, rattles, and still has stuff I want to get fixed on it (a/c, door seals, shocks, suspension bushings, etc) and might not get to do since I'm also a family man with a little one on the way...if you get the picture I don't get much "work on car hobby" time.

At least this would allow me to still have a fast car that's nice and tight.

again I agree

Unless you're a big $$$$$ guy with an easy life to spend unlimited time & $$$$$ on a gn it's not for the faint of heart. I think the new 5.0 is a bargain and has incredible potential. Like you I would rather spend 30 on a car that does it all rather than put 30 into a car that's old and does only one thing good. Not hating because gn's have there place in history for being a ruthless ride but time and technology soon catch up and pass you by!

They are still ugly though :frown:

Yes I'll admit they could use a little help in the cosmetic dept, especially that new redesigned rear panel. Looks worse than the '05-'09 models. But again look what they run in the 1/4 stock. Heck even the new V6 Mustangs run 13.7's in the 1/4. That's what the 4.6 Mustangs of a few years back were running. (except for the s/c 4.6's in the '03 and '04 Cobras)

I hate the rear valance of the 5.0 but everything else about the car I love. A close friend of mine owns PSI performance in Webster Tx and his new 11' 5.0 with a cold air, 4:10 gear and a very consertive tune has gone 12.20 @ 114mph on stock tires. Oh and it is a 6spd auto car. I'm wating to see what it runs on tires and laughing gas. Should go mid to low 11's. And all the creature comforts you could ask for. I realy like the ambient lighting that lights up red around the tach when you approach your shift point.

wow.. totally stock other than the intercooled supercharger pushing 24lbs of boost, long tube headers, meth injsection, and built C4 trans.. and i'm sure the suspension is equally stock, too..
yeah, those cars surely are impressive..

let's be totally honest here- how much money did it take to make the car that fast?
the car itself was over $30k, the supercharger and intercooler setup was probably another $10k.. long tube headers are an easy $1k for anything late model. that trans wasn't cheap, either, and i'm sure the chassis has had another $10k thrown at it.
yes, it's fast- but how much of the Mustang is left as Ford built it, and how much would it cost to make almost any other car go just as fast? how big of a pile of money does it take to make one of our ancient V6 powered Regals go that fast?

My thoughts on the Mustang.....

Ford did their homework....first from what I read they underrated the real horsepower numbers.

Another smart move either by luck or design....they are not as heavy as the Camaro or Challenger....less weight means power power to weight ratio.

As for design I agree the back end is kinda weird...they also need to lose that radio antenna and make the mirrors more attractive or smaller.

Like or not....its a game of numbers and Ford is riding a huge wave of popularity....the neat trick is yet to come with I believe the new Boss model....will have a seperate key that you insert that changes all the settings from mild to wild....

Hurst did a similar trick way back in my day in 1961-62 with the first design Hurst dual gate...was controlled by a key. a key would lock out the ability to shift it from each gear.

Member every car line enjoys its moment in the sun or spotlite at some time...who would have guessed 20 years ago that 6-speed manual shift caddies would see production....

No... Not really... this is the same car before it went under the
"knife"... Yes, it's damn near stock.Since they had a track rental they didn't have to worry about the cage.

A ten second "stock" car is nothing to laugh at, you might have a 12 second camaro with comparable modifications... There is A LOT less money in that car than you would think, and it is 100% streetable...

Give it the same year the camaro has had, and I predict these will easily be the new car to have... I have bitched about the camaro being nothing more than an old fart's wet dream since they came out, and that was before I got to take one home for the weekend. Funny thing is, Im an LSX nut... Im just hoping someone at GM gets fired soon, and we get something resembling a performance car in the Gen 6 camaros... The new 5.0 mustang is about to rewrite the book on modern muscle cars...

If you throw $$ and a blower at a camaro it will do the same if not better...The new z28 is supposed to have a variant of the ctsv cadillac supercharged engine...]

At the SEMA show in Las Vegas last week, the entire Ford display was awesome! :)

For the 5.0 engine a Wipple supercharger package that can be a dealer installed, or do-it-your-self option, also a 5.4 supercharged engine with forged internals like in the Shelby will also be available as a crate engine.

The Eco-boost 6 cylinder with twin turbos is offered in the F-150 truck line and has more towing capacity than the 5.0 Coyote engine.

GM and Mopar had nothing close for mainstream, affordable performance packages! :D

It seems like Ford is the only US company looking to put some fun in their lineup. Chevy is trailing behind somewhat but it's good to see these guys competing. In the end this is just that much better for the consumers :)

The 011 v6's are not in the 13's stock.. 14.1 or so.. They are def slower then the 05-010 4.6 v8's by a few tenths...
