Well came home and found a letter address to both my wife and myself(funny how did they know our name,,
Well he wants to buy our house,,what do you make of this ,sound fishy to you ,the note is hand writen on yellow not paper..not from a realtor (well doesnt seem to be)

I know you can go on the internet and look at tax proprties and see who owns them and even if they have paid their proprty taxes, He probably just looked up your address in some archives. You'd be suprized what they might have on there

if there is any info on there like a phone number, call them and find out whats up, just dont give no one your info or anything like that.

10 years ago my parents went looking for property for sale in Saint Augustine. They could not find any beach front property that was listed that they liked. They drove around and found a vacent lot in a location that was perfect. City Hall gave them the tax info, current owners address, fullname, and any other contact info on file. They wrote the current owner (who resided in California) explaining their interest in her property. After a few letters back and forth, they were able to convince her to sell. A local realtor handled the contracts. If there is a contact number, couldn't hurt to call. :)

In my town within the last 5 years or so the property values have skyrocketed. When they first started to rise the realtors noticed and began calling residents and asking if they wanted to sell. My girlfriends parents were getting calls several times a week and so were many others I knew.

The rise of prices in the San Francisco Bay Area caused many to move and our sleepy little town was exactly what many were looking for, quiet, low crime, and they were willing to pay a lot more than most because it was that much cheaper than what they were in the Bay.

Example; My friend paid $110K for his home 6 yrs ago and today if he wanted to sell it, others in his neighborhood are selling for over $375K. Not bad.

Just look around maybe there is something going on in your community that may be driving values up.

Not meaning to chime in all legal or anything, but was this 'letter' just put in your mailbox without postage? Or was it actually sent to you thru the mail.

Don't forget putting items in peoples mailboxes is very illegal. If they left some contact information, I would inform them that what they are doing IS against the law.

I may wait a week before I replay(make him sweat)

Yes this wasa sent thru the US mail service...
Dennis:(

I'd do something similar just to cut out the realtor. Cheaper to hire a lawyer for $300-400 than to pay several thousand dollars in broker commisions. My house has tripled in value in the last 6 years, and I'll skip past the realtors. No way am I paying $25000 to a broker.

Did any white powder fly off the letter when you opened it  , be careful when you open mail that You dont know who it came from..

That's how I bought my first GN, by leaving a note under the windshield of one that wasn't actually up for sale....if you would in any way consider selling your home for the right price, I'd give him a call.
