So as if my Bears losing the superbowl wasn't bad enuff, I woke up this morning to find that I cant take a shower because the -9 degree air temperature has frozen the water feed to the house  . So I broke out the electric heater and had it blowing on the line where it comes into the house, but after 10 hours still nothing. The Water Dept. said they would be out sometime but this is going on all over the city, so I'm sure they wont be out for a few days. Gotta love the midwest temperatures in winter. I have a strange feeling that all my car money is about to spent on the house :frown: .

when i lived in "cold ass chicago" we would keep the water circulating by letting it drip for awhile or run for a few minutes, i missed the food but not them winters. good luck.

Gary, You need a roofing torch. I have one if you need it.
If let go too long the pipe will surly burst.

fighterjet gn, Vegas food does suck. lol

Thanx ---

I tore out the drywall on the south side of the house exposing the pipe to the warm basement air and after about 15 minutes, water was flowing again. Man U dont realize how important running water is until u suddenly dont have it. Ive been wanting to start a remodel in the basement soo bad, now the wife cant bitch about it

The idiot that designed my house has water pipes running outside the house across an alcove above my front door. When it gets really cold, like it is this week, the pipes to one of my upstairs bathrooms freeze. There are 2 closets, one on either side of the alcove. After living here 8 years I finally figured out that the secret to keeping the pipes from freezing is to simply leave the closet doors open. Enough heat gets in there to prevent any problems. I still shouldn't have to to it, but it's a cheap easy 'fix'. Glad to hear you thawed yours out without breakage.

Yeah. My hot water heater $hit the bed last night so i had to take it out. So i had no running water this a.m. It was to late to go get another one since it was 11:00p.m. What a ball breaker trying to take an Italian shower in the morning. About the only thing worse would be no electricity for more than a day. Hope i didnt offend any Italians;)

Youve got car money ? Please enlighten me to this phoemenon known as car money lol:eek:

You guys with the biggest problems should invest in some pipe heaters, and have a slow leak in a toilet or something. ;)

They don't cost much to run and conduct pretty well.

Flexible pipe heaters especially for that alcove.
