numbers on block ? (year)

i want to find out what year this motor is. the numbers on block read 25514290. can someone help me.

I think thats an 84-is there a oil return drain hole in the front of lifter valley?

Check the stamp pad on the drivers side of the bellhousing flange. There should be VIN stamped there. If it is from a Buick it should start with the number 4 followed by 2 letters and 6 more numbers. The 2nd character will tell you the year.
D=1983
E=1984
F=1985
G=1986
H=1987
J=1988
The first character denotes manufacturer.
4=Buick
3=Olds
2=Pontiac
1=Chevrolet
Here is an example of what you should find. This is the block from my 86 GN.
