Yes, drill a hole and buy a 3/8" NPT tap, and tap the pipe directly. Works just fine. No welding.

Look at the threads on the IAT sensor..
Tapered pipe, or metric strait?
O2 sensor bungs are NOT NPT...18mm x 1.5
