Here's what happens when you don't use the filter socks, and a filter that's too "loose".
These are TFS 120's, Hipo Mustang/w/blower.
The pumps, [2] were put in w/o the socks. The inline filter was 100 micron.
[The owner had the mistaken idea that a 100 micron is a finer filter than a 10.]
Once the car displayed drive-ability issues, a second set of the same injs were installed...With the same result.
Here's a pic of before and after. ALL that was required to get both sets to an OK condition was to pull the filter baskets, replace w/ new, and re-flow test.

Strangely enough, another Moostang had the same issues..More than a couple "hi profile" shops failed to find the issue..Was the same as above!

Also, just did a 3rd set of 120's. These were on E85. Of the 6, 3 worked, w/ 1 being anemic, and a bad pattern.
It took considerable work, and 4 cleanings to resurrect them.
These were in a running engine, and had been out in open air for only a few weeks. It seems this alky dries out really fast.
Had they sat for much longer, I doubt they could have been saved.

And if the end cap falls off your fuel filter (without you knowing abou tit), you'll get a call from Chuck....

"WTF are you burning in that POS?"

EXACTLY!! Stay away from the AZ filters, and your end cap won't fall off!:p

Wait injectors shouldnt be left out in.open for long period? Shit mine were out in garage all winter

Nope. When the light aromatics evaporate they leave behind a jelly and/or some shellac. Just like in a float bowl only with much less time.

I was under the impression 120's opened big enough that they really couldn't get clogged.

Is this true with all fuels or just E85 ?

Gasoline. E85 isn't as bad as it's only 15 gas....

That being said it takes a pretty good amount of crud to gum up a carb.... an injector, not so much. It's orifices are much much smaller.

You would know, right Earl??

So which do you really prefer in an injector?? A smaller hole or a larger one.

I like bigger ones because they can squirt more fluid under load at high rpms LOL.

I like lots of smaller holes. That way if one starts acting up, the rest can take up the slack.

Methanol attacks o'rings, draws water, [hygroscopic], corrodes alum, removes anodizing, eats the filter baskets up, etc.
Methanol "proof" o'rings are about 3X the cost of the common pieces. SS filter baskets are several $$ EACH. Some methanol racers run 2-3 inline filters, no baskets, and hard anodize the entire fuel system.
Ethanol will, it appears, gum up.
Gasoline will gum up. [What Earl said.]
The common ingredients are water & oxygen...As in leaving the injs on the bench for extended periods, leaving them submersed in old fuel, as in a JY engine.
I've had several sets of new, unused injs, be locked up. The OEM's use a test fluid and lube, when making the injs. even it will deteriorate over time.

Thanks for the education!
