Ok, the 86 is being a pain in the arse again. I'm fighting an occasional stutter/stall problem that only seems to happen at highway speeds. The SES light will flash rapidly and the motor acts like it's dropping cylinders in and out. It also runs extremely rich during this sputtering/spitting episode. I've done the ol tap test on the MAF and it's good. Any other ideas as to what be causing the prob. Nothing showed up (naturally) when I hooked DS to it, but it did it again this morning while driving. Thanks for any info guys/gals....

Lonnie,

I'm betting intermittent EEPROM seating problem or ECM pins. Check the chip to make sure it's seated securely; check the ECM pins for corrosion. The rapid SES and rich condition is probably due to the ECM going into "limp home" mode..your 009s make it throw way too much fuel in then.

I had something very similar to that when my cam sensor starting going bad. Usually the darn things just crap out and you can not start the car. But mine would work fine and then while I was driving it flicker the SES and then send me in limp mode. Took hours to figure it out even on the expensive scanner tools that record data in milliseconds. The shop had never seen it before, a cam sensor that had a few bad contacts within that did not just crap out right away and would seen to go away sometimes. All my other cars just died and you could not start it, but of course my buick has to play games with my patience for its problems.
Replaced and all is well.

LOL...Don't these cars always try our patience, especially when nothing obvious is causing the prob. :D

I'll check the chip and make sure all the contacts are clean. It's wierd how it just started doing it out of the blue....Typical of these cars I suppose. Then again, it might have hurt feelings cause I haven't be spending much time with her. Been messing with the 87 lately, just to get a few bugs out of it. I'll have to treat her to some good gas and go smoke the tires a few times to make up for my lack of attention.....:D :D

I'll also take a look at the cam sensor. It was making a slight ticking noise a while back, but had it reset and noise went away......sigh, guess it might be time for a new one.

Thanks for the info guys....I'll let ya know what I find.

My car had the same problem until one day it just didn't start. Took it to the mechanics and they got it to start the first time. I drove it 100 feet and it died. They are now replacing the crank sensor. Good luck

Chris
