On our cars, how do you tell if it has more than 100k miles just by the odo? I am looking at a n/a 86 regal that is in good shape. The odo reads 85k. It isn't perfect but it sure doesn't look or drive like a car with 185k miles on it. The current owner inhereted it from her grandfather that bought it new and she isn't sure if it is 85 or 185 and the title doesn't state. I know I can have a carfax ran but just by the odometer, how can you tell?

Look at the wear on the brake pedal pad, and the throttle pad. That is a pretty good indicator, but to compare, look at a car that has typical 60-80k miles on it, and observe the wear on its pads. Then look at yours; you'll see a significant difference if there odometer has rolled over once.

If the car has a digital dash, I can fairly accurately guess at the mileage of the car by the amount of "charring" on the digital display circuit board, directly under the dimmer resistors. Kind of an indicator...

Pedals are good. I think it is low mile. Good interior with no ware. Good headliner. No rust anywhere. White paint faided some but looks like it will buff out shiny. Good chrome. Good vinal top. Drives solid. I think I'm going to make an offer.

Look at the speedo cluster, and tach area, the orange should be nice and bright on a low mile car. Pedals are a good give away, but can be replaced. I would look at the door hinges, and body bushings too.

Edit: Forget about the tach if its a NA car.... didnt read enough lol.

The only way would be car fax or state inspection records. You could have high mileage car that`s had excellent care. I would be more interested in its present condition and purchase price.

I agree. Purchace price is right. No state inspections here so no records of that. White with burgandy interior bench seat. Stock 14" hubcaps still in place. No rust and only a few door dings.
