I finally got the short block home and need to take it apart. I noticed that there isn't a lot of bore wear. Looks like less than .005 so I'm thinking I might just hone it, get a set of standard forged pistons, do the oiling mods, and get it back together. Need opinions so I'm listening. This is a light use street car that's the earlier carb turbo set-up (83). I'm not trying for 10's . I'm just looking for more power than a 3.8 . This is a resto mod and won't be run at the track except once and a while so boost won't be much more than stock.

The bores need to be smooth for rings to seal. And if you hone it too much then you will get piston slap. Piston slap can break a skirt. So you will need to measure the bore and the piston to find out what your clearance is. I have been lucky doing this befor, but most of the time I needed to have it bored.

What casting number did you get?
