Lots of discussion about Zinc additives. A couple of quick facts:
Zinc Diphosphate is an extreme pressure additive
Oil companies used much higher levels of ZDP in the past
ZDP contaminates Catalytic Converters due to oil consumption
The EPA has driven Oil companies to lower the ZDP levels to extend the useful lives of catalytic converters
Now for the opinion: We see alot more flat tappet cam failures using today's motor oils with lower ZDP levels. I think that if you run a flat tappet cam, extra ZDP in your oil is cheap insurance to protect against failures.
