Our leadership, business and political along with the perception (?) that we are too cheap to pay for anything has caused this problem. We should have been working over the last 20 years to find alternatives. There needs to be a manhatten project on energy. NOW!!!!

To all the conservatives, stop listening to the clowns of big oil that are lining their pockets and ripping us off. You are going to have to realize that competent government is going to be necessary.

To my fellow left wing tree huggers. We are going to have to kill a few birds, wreck a few views (wind power), find a place for production plants, work FOR safe clean nuclear power.

I did hear that they are working on a cellulose ethanol plant in Georgia. The guy building the thing says that they should eventually be able to make ethanol from lots of waste plant products. The goal is $1.25 a gallon. Cost at the pump should be under $2.00! Hope this works out.

Don't ignore the value of the US dollar (plunging rapidly), the impact of China moving away from the US dollar as their "reference" currency, and the huge US trade deficit. It's a lot more complex than "blame the other political party". There is plenty of blame to go around.

Oh but it's toooo easy to just blame the 'other party' though. But don't worry, Hillary will fix it all.

I think we all should trade our USDs for Canadian dollars because those are worth more than ours now :(

This is killing me.. just bought a new 08 F450 and at $3.29 for Diesel is pathetic.. Im only getting about 12.5 mpg on the highway:mad:

I saw the charts on Domestic supply and they were the same as last year. The latest spike in oil prices came from a big drop in imports in the last couple weeks, mostly from Mexico, due to flooding of the oil terminals.

Blaming Bush for high gas prices is stupid, but everybody does it. If Al Gore or John Kerry were President, do you really think gasoline would be cheaper?

Why? Because the economy my would suck and people wouldn't go anywhere (like after 9/11, when gas was $1.00/gallon the highways were ghost towns)

The economy does suck!!!

Move out of Michigan and you'll find that the Economy actually doesn't suck.

Where I work we have 10 openings we can't fill and more work from Japan, Korea , Europe and China than we can handle.

Did Al Gore or J. Kerry beat the war drum? Or are the people (in the Bush Regime) who relentlessly push for more wars directly profiting from it?

More oil is coming out Iraq now than before the war. I'm not seeing your lame point.

The ONLY thing that makes oil cost less is people using less of it. Oil companies can't charge the highest prices they want. If They could sell oil for $200/barrel, they would... but they can't.

Make this as political as you want, but it just makes you look un-informed.

We have people complaining they just bought a 12 mpg truck, but it's Bush's fault gas prices are high.

Whatever.

NAILED IT!
To think we are fighting a war for a family w/ power to make money is rediculous. War is never popular long term, and they committed to a long term war. Bush has the ability to make money as other presidents did after office, working off their power AND stay popular. What he did was what he thought was right. To think this is solely about someone here making money is to be easily swayed by simple minded rhetoric, this is a multi-faceted war over numerous thing, oil being a part no doubt. Honestly, how would Kerry have "made" oil cheaper. We all knew we were going to war 9/11, even puss Kerry would have, then what...we have a country at war, and needing oil....what do you do?!
We all know that there are record high in profits for many petroleum companies now, and I see that you cant turn your head to that, but having more fuel efficient cars than ever, BUT more cars than ever....still puts us well below break even in consumption decrease that is needed to make prices fall. In addintion, add katrina, which only Hillary could have prevented, and other "natural" disasters, and its just bad events compounding.
As stated above, this is very simple supply and demand. We need it, they got it, they have us by the nuts. Its not that political, its business that people expect politecs to "fix". When they cant they suddenly are blamed for being "in" on something, or having motives. The cost rising is normally only talked about in imported oil since its the larger supply we use, not domestic.....how many oil rigs outside the US does the Bush family own?
