oil leak, cross over

Been noticing oil leak. After idling the car and looking underneath, there is oil leaking on the hot cross over pipe. Have not had time to spend underneath the car as of yet. Where should I look when I do. Is it gonna be the rear main, or possibly something else.

The rear main would be my guess, certainly where I would start.

could be the lower intake gasket,or passenger valve cover gasket...been through that with the same symtoms your describing

Rear main seal, oil pan gasket, or valve cover gasket would be my guess. I'm currently replacing my oil pan gasket(was leaking right onto the crossover too), what a pain in a TTA w/girdle Only way to know is get under there and look, clean the area up and see where it's coming from.

I have the same problem. I think mine is the oil pan leaking.

So any of the common leaks would show up by leaking on the cross over pipe? Man this sucks, it is a bitch to crawl under the car and hunt for multiple leak sources.

You can check the back of the intake manifold by putting your hand back there and feeling for oil. You may have to remove the coil/ign. module. And you can check the valve cover by lying under the car and looking up at the back of the cover. Usually you can see if the valve cover gasket is wet. What part of the crossover is getting wet? If it is over near the starter, it's probably coming from the top.

vavle covers look clean. The oil leak is showing just underneath the starter and dripping right on my newly Jet Hot coated 2000 cross over pipe. Beautiful dirty brown stain that I'm sure is baked onto the pipe. I'm assuming the upper intake is easier to fix than the rear main??

If it is the back of the intake manifold you will have to remove it and install a new valley pan gasket and seals. Some guys prefer to use rtv in place of the front and rear seals. To me, it is easier to do the rear main than the intake gasket.
Put your hand back by the manifold (under and behind the ignition module) and see if it is wet.

I have all my money that the lower intake gasket failed to seal.. like chris garrett said, the felpro valley pan intake gasket set is the best set so far in my opinion....

I took off that Kirban PCV check valve thing I had on there. I took off the tranny converter shield and started the car. Jacked her up a bit and crawled underneath. Spent about 10 minutes under there and did not see the leak that was there the other day. I'm hoping that PCV check valve caused something to leak. But if a gasket failed I would think the leak would still be there. I will take her for a drive this week and see if it shows up.

I would think if the pcv was leaking there would be oil on top of the manifold.
