oil pressure

I have read on here about relief springs for the oil pump that have different stiffness and different colors. Where can i buy these springs and what is involved in changing them? thanks.

Those springs are relief springs. They open a relief valve if the pressure gets too high. They will not raise the running oil pressure.

What do you suggest i do? I have about 11-12 at an idle on a cold day with 25w-50 in it. And with 20-50 it over heats.

If it overheats, it isn't the weight of the oil. Much more info needed for anyone to assist.

Do not know what the attraction to 20w-50.

Unless that oil is warm, it takes a l-o-n-g time to flow to all areas of an engine

The oil pressure does not seem bad. Does your OP shoot up fast by taping the gas? It is about how the OP reacts to rpm's that give an indication of OP issues

yea it goes right up as soon as i hit the gas and maxes around 45 but i have to run 25-50 to keep my temperatures low. if i let it idle with 20-50 around 10lbs of OP, the temp will shoot up to 220-230 unless i hold the RPM's at like 1000-1200 to bring the pressure up. As soon as i bring the OP up the temp falls rapidly. any help would be gret. thanks.

Is that temperature the engine (coolant) temperature or the oil temperature ?

If it is the coolant temp then I would guess that there is an engine cooling issue like failing water pump, blocked rad, low coolant etc and not an oil pressure thing.

By giving the engine more RPM you are also speeding up the water pump which will have an effect on the temperature as well by moving more coolant through the engine and into the rad.

The engine in my 87 got to where in traffice w/ ac on the temps would race to the 220-230 mark, come to find out the radiator fan motor was going south due to bearing failure. Might want to check out the fan motor.
