My cars suck

Heres what I got: scanmaster and direct scan shows a good running car. Not rich, blm's are well within spec, int. # are good, etc. Fresh motor. After just a few hundred miles, my oil smells like gas. My fuel pressure will hold for a little while after shut down. After maybe 2 hours, its near zero. Is this how I'm getting gas in the oil? A leaky injector perhaps? How do I test? It could be the fuel pump, but this only started happening after my injector upgrade. If the fpr is going bad, would it just bleed the pressure back to the tank? I don't want to change the oil every 500 miles. I've heard some cars with "big" build ups just have this happen, but that sucks. What should I be looking for? I'm pretty damn sure its not rich, new o2 on pump gas, scan #'s look great. Thanks for the help!

SOUNDS LIKE FUEL PRESSURE IS TO HIGH BUT BLM'S AREN'T
SHOWING IT. HOW MANY MILES ON THIS NEW MOTOR.
THE RINGS MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SEATED CAUSING ALOT
OF BLOWBY. ALSO,WHEN YOU CHANGED INJECTORS DID
YOU UPDATE YOUR COMPUTER CHIP TO MATCH YOUR INJECTORS?
ALSO TAKE YOUR DIPSTICK OUT AND TRY LIGHTING IT. IF
IT GOES UP IN FLAMES THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IF
NOT IT MIGHT NOT BE AS SERIOUS AS YOU THINK.GOOD LUCK

I'm going to change the oil, but I need to find the problem. I really don't know how much gas smell is normal. It wouldn't light the dipstick on fire when I held a flame to it. I would think the rings are seated, I got like 1000-1500 miles on it with some boost. No smoke, and I think the car is running properly. Should the fuel pressure bleed off that fast? From 42 psi to 5-10 psi in 2 hours? Is that acceptable? These are 50 # inj., so they could put some fuel in if thats where the pressure is bleeding off at. Ideas???

Plugs look good. The only thing thats not super great is the first cell of the blm is 139, I think thats idle. A little rich, but within range, right? I'll try to pull some fuel at idle with my translator, but I don't feel like thats the problem.

MOST FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE BLED OFF IN 2 HOURS.
IT COULD BE A LEAKING INJECTOR. IF YOU HAVE SOME OTHER
INJECTORS YOU COULD GIVE THEM A TRY. HOW IS O2
SENSOR. IT SHOULD BE CYCLING. CANT SAY EXACT NUMBERS
BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE LOCKED IN ONE PLACE. A FAULTY
O2 SENSOR CAN CAUSE ENGINE TO RUN LEAN OR RICH
AND IT WON'T SHOW UP IN BLM'S BECAUSE O2 IS LYING TO
THE COMPUTER. HOOK UP SCANTOOL OR WHATEVER YOU
HAVE TO THE CAR AND WATCH 02. THEN PULL THE VACUUM OFF
YOUR FUEL REGULATOR. THIS WILL CAUSE A RICH CONDITION
AND 02 WILL GO OVER 900 IF WORKING PROPERLY. THEN
WATCH YOUR BLM'S. THEY SHOULD START DROPPING TO
VERIFY THAT THE COMPUTER IS CORRECTING FOR THE RICH
CONDITION.

Its a new o2, and it cycles faster than I can see on DS. I am 99% sure its good.

How much boost are you running on it? now that its broke in Im sure your are running it somewhat hard, Correct? fuel is going to get in the oil thats something you really cant stop unless you install a crankcase vacume pump,or turn the boost down to about 18psi or less. you arent getting alot of fuel in there since your dipstick didnt light but its enough that you can smell it, right? thats about normal if you run it hard ocasionally@ 20+psi and have around 1000 miles since last oil change. I get about 1000 miles then I change the oil because it starts smelling like gas no problems yet. and Im talking years of this.

well you guys put my mind at ease, cause my oil smells a bit gasy too, but it won't light fire..is this normal with a turbo car? would installing breathers on the vavle covers help with this?

i agree with the above. pressizing your engine is definately
going to cause blowby past the rings especially with over
20lbs of boost. the more times you hit max boost, the
more blowby that gets past. others who don't run their
cars as hard as you may do probaly won't notice it.
unless your oil level is increasing because of blowby, you
probably don't have a problem. anyone who does run thier
cars hard should change the oil more frequently[1000-2000mi]

The truth is I don't run it hard, its set on 15-17 psi all the time, and its seen 20 psi only on the dyno, 4 pulls, and I changed the oil after this. So I barely drive it, boost is relatively low, and this oil has probably 200-300 miles on it. Easy street driving, too. The car idles crappy sometimes, like its rich, but would that really do that to the oil? I have breathers on my GN1 valve covers, but I don't think that will help. It hasn't helped anyway. Is the lighting the dipstick method reliable? There is no way I'm changing my oil every 300 miles. 1000 I can deal with, because I barely drive the car. I just don't think this is right.

sam, you said your blm's at idle are 139, right? that indicates
the car was running lean at idle and the higher blm's mean
its adding additional fuel. lower blm's mean the car was running
rich and the computer is taking fuel away. get some wot 02
numbers and blm's. may take a few runs before the computer
starts to compensate.
also you may want to do a cylinder leak down test. just cause
a motor is "new" doen't mean its right as much as we would
like it to be. mistakes happen.

Sounds like a leaky injector to me. My stockers did that at 80K miles on salvageV6. Changed them out at 113K.

Problem went bye bye. :)

Yeah, I know my cylinder walls are very clean. ;)

I think you may be right on the injector thing. I'm still trying to find out if 2 hours is acceptable for the pressure to bleed off. The plugs are good looking, the o2 is good, its even lean at idle, and I get no smoke, so what else could it be? How do I test to see if its an injector? Thanks for the help!

I just changed all 6 to my Bosch Greentops at 42.5lb. and all was good.

What injectors do you have?

Perhaps picking up a coupla used good ones and start swapping them out between oil changes. Not fun but would work for ya.

I still have pressure after 2 hours in my car usually over 20lbs.

I have a good dash gauge and isolator.

I have 50# injectors. The oil pressure is good, and the oil itself looks good, but smells of gas. I changed it today, and none of it would burn, so I guess thats good. The plugs look good, so there shouldn't be a blowby problem, right? No smoke, either.

I meant fuel pressure gauge. I can still see good pressure after two hours so it may be an injector.

Might just be a stuck or plugged up one perhaps a couple of gallons of xylene to 5-8 gallons of gas might help.

Or just pull them and get them flowed and cleaned/checked.

I have an autometer mechanical gauge, hooked to the fuel rail. These injectors only have about 1000 miles on them.
