OK, how do I go about finding an old car by the VIN?

I hope there is a way...

My late father was big into racing and ended up holding 5 track records at beeline raceway (here in AZ) when he was younger. My uncle wants to find the car he used to race - it was either a 55 or 57 chevy - and restore it to it's former glory:D

He is pretty sure he can get an old copy of the registration, which should have the VIN on it. I figure I could carfax it and see what state it was last registered in and contact the DMV....

Is there an easier way?

I would bet that it ended up in a junk yard somewhere, due to the extensive mods that were done to it for drag racing. If we can't locate it , we would like to get one that hasn't been too molested or restored yet and use it. Does anyone know of a good candidate?

Thank you everyone in advance,

Victor

Well, I did a search on traderonline and there is a bunch of good starter cars on there. So, if we cannot locate my dad's, then one of those will have to do.

I sure would appreciate some advice on tracking down the original one though.

Thanks again,

Vic

I cant give you any advice on it but I wish you good luck that sounds like a really cool project, I love the nostalgia drag cars.
