I went in and changed the passwords for all 4 usernames on my Windows 2000 ME. I logged off the administrator User onto another user id, but now I cant remember what the administrator user ID is. Now all "My Documents" from the last 3 years are gone.Does anyone know what the default administrator user id would be? Or just shoot me now and get it over with!!

Is it 2000 or ME? I will assume 2000. If so you are truly SOL unless you created the other user accounts with administrative powers. First I need to confirm is it 2000 or ME.

Actually it is Windows 2000 Professional:(
When first run, is there only one user that is administrative....I know I changed all of them to one password, but just cant remember the user name for adminstrator.

Thanks, Steve, but it says I must be logged in with administration privledges to run the program:(

I believe that when your logged in as a standard user account (non administrator) you don't have the administrative privilages to install such a wonderful tool. I however am, and I downloaded the tool on to my machine, very very nice. ;)

Have you tried the caps on caps off scenerio. You know, type your most common passwords in with the caps lock on and then with the caps lock off. Sometimes you get lucky. To answer your question regarding user accounts, you start off with just the one administrator account and one guest account so if you created 3 additional accounts chances are they have standard user rights and cannot act with administrative privilages.

I changed the passwords for all users to the same, so I know the password. I have just been unable to determine the user name for the administrator (it's not "administrator") since I cannot view the list of user IDs without administrative priveledges.

As long as you did not change the name of the administrator account then the userID for the administrator account is "administrator" by default. Did you change the name?

I can send you a disk that will hack into the sid and let you change your password . Email me with address if you still are stuck.

You will probably have to call me so I can walk you through doing it.

You can view the list of user Id's just follow these steps.

1)Log on as one of the users (it does not matter which)
2)Right click on My Computer and scroll down to "manage"
3)Double click "Local Users and Groups"
4)Double click "Users"

That will show you a list of users on your machine. You will not be able to do anything with them but it will allow you to see the user id for the local administrator.

Ok I'm confused, did you forget the administrator username or the administrator password?
