I heard it was the Troma Toxic Giant Squirrel lying accross the Canadian Power Grid that started it.

That would be accross the two 00 jumper cables that lead into Buffalo.

Just some minor interruptions here in the greater New Haven area. The nursing home I work in went on generator for a short time and I noticed some traffic lights acting weird on the way home. With this heat and humidity here in the Northeast I was wondering when something was going to give.

How the hell does a power outage of this magnitude happen, and the don't know what caused it?

My laptop battery is the only reason I can type this. Dial up service is still working. Power has been out now for almost 7 hours. CNN says it started here in Ottawa while other news outlets say it was Manhatten or alternatively Niagara Falls. It will be interesting to find out.

My battery jumper powerpac is running my laptop inverter and a small light. They say no power until morning. It has not been this quiet in NYC since the last black out

I work in NJ but.....

....of course I had to be in NY yesterday for a meeting. Thank gawd I was in White Plains and not the city. I was sittin' in a meeting, wishing it would end so I could go home and BAM! pitch black. Wish granted.

Too bad the 1 hr. ride home turned into 3+.....

I like the :lightning: excuse, the local weatherman said he studied the lightning strike data last night, and there were NO hits anywhere near the station...

I still suspect foul play - especially since they still won't release/admit what caused it.
