A case of ammo and a case of Bud and that would trump alot of other recreational activities.

My buddy bought .17 HMR a few months ago and had not yet had time to shoot it. I will send the link and inspire some motivation. Thanks.

had a savage 17 hmr and loved it! it does a number on groundhogs too:biggrin:
I do miss it :frown: I had to sell it to keep my family going when i got layed off. That little 17 cal. bullet is moving around 2500 fps. and the sad thing is that it is a rim fire. The 223 or (as some know it as a 5.56x45mm) is also the same basic speed. That in my eyes is just nuts and fun at the same time.

Cool vid but not too smart dropping the live rounds in the back of teh truck at the beginning of the vid:eek:

My wife would enjoy blsting them suckers

I would love to try some squirrel!

anybody know what its like?

It's been a few years since I've had it but it's like rabbit. The problem with squirrel is their size. By the time your done cleaning there is little to eat and it's not the best of meats so I quit shooting them. Plus they keep me amused for hours in my deer stand while nothing else is moving.

We actually have squirrel a couple times a year. Its usually a family get together and we cook up quite a bit.
Salt, pepper, and fry em up. We make gravy from the drippings, bake a bunch of bisquits, and have a great meal.
We have two types of squirrel here, fox squirrel (larger grey type), and the smaller cat squirrel. Cat squirrel are more tender and taste better, but are harder to shoot and there is less meat.
Of course I grew up in the country, we ranch and farm, and do get a few strange looks when we have freinds over for a squirrel meal.
I guess you could say a square meal is a squirrel meal.

that actually sounds really good!

but there isnt alot of squirrels out here in the desert... but i wonder if prairie dog taste much different?

Prairie dogs commonly carry the bubonic plague, so I wouldn't probably handle or eat one for that matter. But they sure are fun to shoot!

LOL on the p-dogs. Not sure on those, we don't have any here. I guess if you get hungry enough anything would taste good!!

I usually grill them or fry them

Frying I take some italian bread crumbs, a little olive oil wet the squirel with olive oil and roll sprinkle some red pepper flakes and mesquite steak seasoning. Just a touch of the last 2

Grilling, I use some of the mesquite seasoning and sometime a little barbie sauce

Depending on how you like them done you can also soak them in vinigar for a couple of hours to get any blood out of them then either fry or put on the grill. Very tasty but the bigger ones can be tough sometimes. If you cook them up on a grill you can strip the meat and make a really good chile out of them.
