Opinions on shaving bumpers.....

I hate the "cattle pushers" that are on the front and rear bumpers on our cars, so i took it over to our body shop and the guys are going to fill in the holes and paint them.......anyone ever do this? i was going to go fiberglass, but its a truly street driven car and i think they look kinda cheap.....ill post some pics when its done...

The guy that was in GMHTP about three months ago had it done. I thought it looked nice and that whole car all in all was the slickest TR I've ever seen.

I have the glass bumpers and no one would know unless I told them or unless they pushed on them. They look very nice, not cheap. The smoother look is much better than the bumperettes and rubber trim on the stock bumper. You will happy you did it, trust me.

I was able to take a solid 12lbs off of each bumper by removing the bumperettes and cutting down the aluminum bumer supports.

Heath Elmer had it done to the bumpers on his GNX that was in PHR if I remember correctly.

i didnt know you had that done banning, what did you use to cover up the holes? i should have done that instead of paying a guy 100 bucks to fill the holes in and paint over them....

When my car was in it's accident several years ago, I bought a front clip and didn't realize that the bumper had been shaved until I installed it. So my front bumper is smooth. It looks like someone used fiberglass and filled it. It looks good. I don't have a pic, but I'll try to shoot one later today.

Those bumperettes are fairly useless anyway, you already have an impact strip on the bumper. I say go for it, you gave me an idea!

yea i took them off just to see what it would look like, and even withthe holes it left, it looks sooo much cleaner....go for it

You can get those bumper bolts at most parts stores, you'll probably have to ask the guy behind the counter where they keep them. I was thinking about scuffing a set and painting them black to match the car.

Ace hardware sells the black plastic push in plugs that do the same thing. Just spray them gloss back. $1 each or so.

you can get chrome caps to push in as well- drill the hole out to a certain size and snap the caps in- i did it with a chevelle bumper someone had drilled 2 holes in.
