Currently I run a 6152 with the large exhaust housing on my stock bore LC2. The motor has Champion irons and intake, 50's with meth injection, and all the basic bolt on performance parts. For a converter I have an Art Carr 9" n/l 3200 stall and a T brake. I'm considering upgrading my turbo to something more state of the art and larger but am on the fence as to which one best fits my combo. Typically my car spools fast with the turbo/converter I have now and sees most of it's duty on the track with some street cruising. Are these new "boosted" technology turbos all that they are made up to be? What turbo do you all think would best compliment my combo and allow some room to grow in to?

TIA

I think the 6152 is around a good place to stop on the stock short block, but maybe that's just me. I'm pretty sure someone here was running a 6776BB and blew the motor. Sure ball bearing technology lets you run a bigger turbo with less stall but gotta make sure the engine can handle it.

I wanted a 6776 for a long time and then realized it was capable of more power than should be thrown at the stock block and I instead went with a 6157, one of the new "boosted" turbos. We'll see how it goes when the weather warms up.

Let me check out that 61 when your finished?what are the specs on that ?

The method behind my madness is to run a larger turbo at less boost PSI for more volume of cooler air. Eventually I will bore the block and shove a girdle under it with good rods and pistons...but for now I don't want to buy a smaller turbo for the present and regret the purchase in the future. Over the last 17 years of messing with these cars I've learned at least one thing...buy a little more than you need to grow into....buy now or buy later ya know!

I Read your sig. If you're already in the 10.90's with the turbo you have I would leave it at that until you get the bottom end built. I broke my stock block in half with a 6776 P-Trim w/ 63. housing 10.80's :frown: I'm a true believer in borrowed time once you get the 20yr old stock bottom end in the tens. Hope that helps.

I feel ya. I must be a glutton for punishment even messing with the combo as it sits, the damn car runs like a top for no more than it has done to it. If I had given a tad more thought into which cam to put in it when I had it open, the 208-208 would not have been an option. I guess I could always put a set of 1.65 roller rockers on it to increase the lift.

Hey Joe what's the rest of your combo...From what I have read in this thread it sounds like I will have a VERY similar combo this year and you are running very close to where I want to be time wise.

I like my 6776 dbb. It is an animal at just 20 psi. Making a track trip soon. Waiting on some ET streets.

turbov6joe,nice running car you have there!you are really getting it done there from start to finish.if i may be so bold to offer a quick opinion, first figure out how fast you would like to go,then do some research to see what others needed for that et and mph.that 60ft is hot:biggrin: nice combo!

My buudy had a journal bearing 6776 and his car was not any faster than my TTA with a GT3255 when both cars were run at 25PSI. I set up and drove both cars so the tune was not an issue. Both cars were on alky and both used the same TurboTweak chip. Both cars were stock motor cars. Both cars 60' about the same.

But I think I am going with the 6765BB on my GN when I upgrade my old school 63E. The 6157BB would be a good choice too. I bet it spools up great on the street and makes plenty of power to go 10s. I am kind of torn between the 61 and 67 as well. But if you plan on doing the motor in the future the 6765 is the way to go IMO.

Let is know what you end up going with and how it turns out.

How do you like your 6157? I just ordered one from Full Throttle. I bought the journal bearing one (not ball bearing). I have 009's, stock cam, ATR 3" DP, ATR front mount intercooler, Vigilante (3000 stall) torque converter. This is the one Mike Licht recommended for me and he was running a sale that ended today. Thanks.
